Why are they Encrypting FD channels? makes no sense...

I agree it's ridiculous, I asked if the dispatch TRS with simulcast on the old VHF dispatch channel and I was told no.

Yeah, I agree, I can see PD and maybe EMS, but fire is not a good idea… but I guess the days of listening will soon be over. I’ll remember the next time I get a donation request.

They are in the process of getting new APX radios installed in all apparatus, all portable radios are APX NEXT with air cards. The system won't be going live until the end of the year or early next year and everything will be E except a few fireground channels. I don't know if they are simplex or on the system as of yet. Members either have or will be getting Unication G5 pagers.
It totally sucks, but that's what the Fire Commissioners want.

They should have done some research on encrypting fire channels, I guess they have their minds made up. May come back to haunt them down the line. Time will tell…

Exactly, remember when you vote for their budget and the fire commissioners. We have the power to vote them out andthe budgets down. Want to spend our tax dollars to lock us out? No problem.

The E looks like it’s going through, if I was in charge, I’d E one police channel for sensitive info and one TG for first aid for the same reason. Fire I’d leave in the clear. I think some times they forget they are working for WE the people, our taxes pay for a majority of their budgets. Elections and donation time are coming around soon, but not enough scanner listeners to make a difference… lol the news media should lead the way to fight it!

I think the entitlement factor here is very high. You think you know so much. by not donating, all your doing is hurting the volunteers that are trying to serve the public.

They are not happy that the radios will be encrypted, we‘ll have to wait and see how it works out.

TRFD is funded by a fire district tax that homeowners pay and their budget is voted on by the residents of TR once a year. Donations have nothing to do with hurtling the TR volunteers. Budgets have been voted down in the past and the volunteers were just fine, just didn't get all the wishlist things they put in for. The donation envelopes that come in the mail in TR are for the fire companies to buy and do non firefighting things.

I am very well versed on how it works. I have first hand knowledge of all of it. However voting down the budget still doesn't help. the budget has to get reviewed and cut by the town for approval. First off, you live in Toms River? Second, it’s my business if I donate or not, if we the people don’t speak up or do something, they will keep taking things away that we most likely paid for with our taxes. Right now our police force and our Mayor are not in very good terms, next time I see him I’ll give him about 14 articles I found regarding encryption, other departments have had issues when in tall buildings or basements with reception. Like I said before time will tell…

Hope this is a sign. I believe on Wednesday night they have training at the center on Chutch Rd. It’s been in the clear, that’s where I got the list of Radio ID’s I posted for you. Thanks for trying to get Brick Hospital for me, I’ll keep fooling, family member works there, I’d like to monitor security…

Last night toms River had a oil spill call and I was listening and the fire dispatcher told one of the Chiefs that the 154-145 channel was patched to the new trunk system so 7001 is dispatch and response because I put it on my scanner even though it was a encrypted channel and her encryption sounds on heat dispatched another call on 7001 and the new trunk system for toms River

TG 7000 is dispatch, only the dispatch center can talk on it, no radios are programed to transmit on it.
7001 will be the channel they call in service on and get their orders on.
then they have the FG TG's they can/will switch to. All are encrypted.
They were using the response TG the other day at OCC and it was patched through to the VHF CH 1.
So far, the only channel that is in the clear is the inter op channel TG 7012. They were using it for the Halloween parade.
