This past week TRFD was doing May-Day training on the trunk system in the clear on TG 7014. I'm unsure of what it is called. Probably another inter op channel. Someone was also talking on TG 7013 in the clear.

Why would they encrypt fire Department communications?

Because they can.

The Piscataway New Jersey "secret communications system" encrypts all communications for the entire town, police fire EMS.... Even the public works department!!😄

They don't want you listening in on street sweepers, truck drivers, snow plows, or any other SENSITIVE communications. 😂😂😂

Well, listen to TRFD and TR EMS all you can this weekend.
Monday is cut over day and we will no longer hear TRFD or TR EMS as they will be 100% Encrypted on all TG.
TRFD VHF 1 is going to be patched into Inter op 1 that is in the clear for departments without the new TRS.

What a shame. The big wigs screwed the pooch on this one. I know if I see an MVA, or a brush fire, flames showing in a residence, injured persons, crimes, tips on missing persons, you name it in Toms River. I'll just keep rolling down the road. They can handle it with their new fancy encrypted radio system.

I agree. They wanna go encrypted, its on them, no tips from the public. "We dont want anyone to hear us" what are you afraid of? Criminals hearing you? F them and their secret squirrel sh*t. Dont you think they would want the public's help with tips? Nope. We want our secret squirrel sh*t to remain secret squirrel sh*it. Remember that when someone is calling for help. I hope the idiots who decided on the encryption will be there to help.

I think this is the correct approach. If our emergency responders, or more specifically the decision makers behind approving encryption of all of these communications, want to restrict access, then they should no longer expect cooperation from the community in any form. Let them do the job on their own from here on. I'm sure some of them prefer it that way anyhow.

It's important to make it known why we choose not to cooperate if the question ever comes up, and it's important to remember this when election time rolls around - that includes all elections, right down to the department level.

The old dispatch frequencies for FD and EMS still have sporadic activity. Still working out the bugs, apparently.

TRFD VHF 1 and TR EMS UHF are patched to the FD response TG and the EMS TG for now. I'm told it is temporary and will be gone soon. :(

Are they still toning out on VHF?
Only the tons to activate the sires on the specific firehouse going out. I had my own minitor 4 pager I kept on my counter for the past 5 years. I had all their tones in it to hear what's going on. I unplugged and took the battery out or it today and put it in a box in the garage.
