still haven't played with it yet
I'm afraid when I die my wife will sell my stuff for what I told her I paid for it!agreed. u cant take it with you. my uncle just died, tons of cars and everything else. now the family sells it and enjoys the $. i will leave only radios and these are to be buried with me, just in case i need them!
Look, I've been a Ham for over 20 years, I've worked in a commercial radio shop for many years, and am a communications tech for a class 1 railroad. I have 3 Baofengs, I paid $35 a piece for them. They are junk, they are a $35 radio, clear and simple. You get what you pay for. I live in south Louisiana and I'm in boats, in the swamp. I loose things. I loose a $450 HT, I'm upset. I loose a $35 Baofeng, I buy another when I get home. You get what you pay for. If you like the hobby, whether it's scanning, shortwave, or amateur radio, you're going to spend money, as you always want to make your shack better. Save up and get what you NEED. If you don't have the right equipment for what you want to do, then you'll not have the fun you thought you would and you'll probably loose interest in the hobby. Baofeng's software sucks, programming cable is junk, and field programing is a pain, but it's fine for a $35 radio. Unless I'm going to the swamp, they collect dust on the shelf.
I agree,i know one ham that thinks the more money you spend on radio the smarter it makes you,not every one has an Fat wallet......Already ordered the Uniden scanner bruh.
Also, the Baofengs look like neat little starter HAM radios. Field programming doesn't seem that bad after watching a few videos. How is the programming cable junk? It isn't the cable people have trouble with it's knowing how to install the drivers correctly, and getting it to recognize the device. Also, the UV-5R is $25 not $35. Maybe a die hard HAM radio guy who spends every waking moment on the hobby needs a crazy cool pimpin HAM radio and a whole $3,000 desktop setup, with 3 to 5 different antennas on the roof maybe even a satellite dish but for someone like me a cute little baofeng would do just fine just to be able to say I have a HAM radio to toy around with.
Thanks for your reply.
open it. program it. enjoy it.
I think i'm going to open it today and check it out
what is your hurry? leave it in the box. take your time. i know one ham who has no radio equipment and only a technician license. he gets around things by posting videos on youtube of other people's equipment, pretending it's his. dont be in a hurry to open this scanner. it is fine in the box and will be worth more $ unopened. you can sell it new in the box when it's a classic 20 years from now!
Alright.....maybe next week
I am telling you, do NOT open it at all. leave it in the box and sell it as a classic someday. Put it on a shelf in your closet and forget about it. i know a ham who gets by with only a baofeng as where he lives there is nothing worth scanning. he hits the repeater with 5 watts baofeng and gets excited. he tells everyone he is into qrp bec he has no power. buy a baofeng for $30 and get your tech license.
I was being sarcastic too. It's never going to be worth money lol. Going to open it after I eat or tomorrow. What could be all that cool to listen to late at night?
I was being dead serious. do NOT open that scanner. leave it in the box! dont be in such a hurry. slow down!
You're doing what others PMd me saying you would do.
