• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My head hurts from all this stuff. I'm fixing to just call out an electrician and tell him to get it done. I don't care what it cost.

Call your electric utility first. It should be free. If there is a discrepancy with their gear, they'll fix it. If there is a discrepancy with your stuff, they'll likely point it out and tell you exactly what needs to be done.
That last part may be very valuable. If you call in an electrician it might get very expensive if you don't know exactly what to ask for.

Many years ago I had an issue with a faulty gas stove. I was able to call my local gas utility and they sent a guy out. He fixed my faulty pilot light with a simple adjustment. Saved me blowing $700 on a new stove or a bunch of money on a plumber.
Getting the same sort of service from the electric utility might save you a bunch of money.

It never hurts to ask....

June edition of Nuts and Volts magazine has an informative article about household wiring and grounding. It just arrived today. They have an on line magazine as well.

Hello U+12: The U-Bolts could be installed holding the two tower legs against the wood, I would add them in between the Pipe Clamps. We are just trying to suggest ways to keep that antenna installation up in bad weather. And your safety when climbing the tower. I am sure your tower install guy means well, but I have had and seen too many towers and such come down in strong winds. When say just a few more dollars could have prevented loosing the tower and antenna.

I took down two 65 foot towers a few years back, these towers where supposed to be free standing and not need guy wires. The Ham who had these towers added guy wires to them as cracks could be seen in the sides of the tower legs. Guy Wires again help lessen the stress placed on the top mounting point. Oh yeah they weren't properly grounded.

Don't let the grounding thing get you down. 99% of all the Ham and CB Towers aren't grounded per the book, don't sweat it. You can always just unplug your coax in the event of a lightning storm.

Again good antenna install.

How would a guy go about using ubolts to secure it to the house? I looked at everything under the sun at Lowes and local hardware stores. This is the best and most sturdy thing I could find. The guy that installed the tower for me said it was probably the best way to do it. These straps have 8 quarter inch lag bolts that are 3 inches long in them. I was going to have him put guy wires on it and he told me it didn't need it. But I guess I could add them just for more security. On the tower cleaning I just used sandpaper and the Premium Grey Primer RustOleum brand from walmart. It was almost $4 a can. The guy that installed it has put up several towers even a few 80' towers. But I'm open to opinions and suggestions. This is first tower I have ever had. I've only had push up poles in the past for any kind of antenna. Thanks for all you guys input.
