I have a question about what I see on TRUNK88 and curious to see what the difference is between the two.

I am just wondering on TRUNK88 when they do a PATCH or MULTISELECT. What is the difference between the two. I am just curious to see. Let me know.

I will be waiting for any replies to this ONE QUESTION. Thanks.

Coolguy.

Coolguy, this thread belongs in the trunker type programs forum, not Eastern Canada.

Please start posting your threads in the correct forum.

I've moved it for you this time.

PATCH or MULTISELECT. What is the difference between the two.
Here's my understanding:

A patch ties two or more talkgroups together so that they operate like one big talkgroup. If you patch groups A and B together, everyone in group A and B can hear each other.

In a multi-select, the dispatcher can talk to multiple talkgroups at once and hear all replies but the mobiles only hear replies for their respective talkgroups. Example: a dispatcher multi-selects group A and B to send out an announcement. A mobile from group A responds. The radios from group B do not hear this. Likewise, a member of group B replies; the radios from group A do not hear this.

Rick (Unitrunker) has it right.

Patch = two or more talkgroups are linked together and everybody will hear everybody else.

Multiselect = I (the dispatcher) transmit on two or more talkgroups at once; everyone hears me, but if/when they reply, it only goes to the talkgroup they're on.

Ok thanks for that explanation.

I was just curious about that, cuz I always see patches and sometimes MULTISELECT patches come up and was wondering what the difference was between the 2.

Now I know.

I've noticed on Fleetnet that OPP and MOH dispatchers typically like to use patches. MTO dispatchers seem to favor multiselects.

Yup you are right about that Forts. That is what I have always seen here on TRUNK88 on FLEETNET in ZONE 3. The OPP and AMBULANCE using PATCHES. The MTO here always uses PATCHES when they do the road reports, but when MTO DISPATCH comes on at any other time other than road report time to tell about a road closure or just to let all the units know that he or she will be away from the radio for a certain amount of time, is when the MULTISELECT PATCH is used.
