I had very confusing issues with my TRX-1 until I began to learn and understand it. Most of my difficulties were self-induced minor things like when it wouldn't react to the button push - didn't have a QK assigned - or getting nothing on my trunk scans - didn't have a service enabled - or I would get dept, channel and system site keys all mixed up and duplicated somewhere. Stupid oversights that seemed minor but slammed the brakes on my radio. When I took the time to appreciate the information I obtained here on this website and applied it accordingly it really made the difference between night and day. Now my scanner rocks but only because I dialed down the frustration. Still took me maybe 20- 25 uploads before I started getting it down. I had the audio issue here with a simulcast system and dialed down the DSP as someone here mentioned until I got it right and now the audio is loud and clear right from the radio.
I look at it this way - this radio (and the ws-1065, bcd536 which I own) are like fine Fender and Gibson guitars. Right out of the box they usually don't play well until they are set up properly, intonation set, action lowered to your liking, bridge adjusted, pickups adjusted, nut filed if needed, etc, and then proper strings tuned and played hard for a bit to break them in. Then it's a guitar. You pickers out there will know what I mean.
Treat it like you would your woman...now, don't tell me you're divorced,
