Baby monitors aren't restricted to babies. This one was up in the low VHF band for a few days before they found it turned on - never did find out who it was but some of the intercepts were quite juicy!

when you live in a condo and have neighbors who have babies, Close Call quickly taps you right into their world whether you want to be there or not 😆 I remember ditching our traditional baby monitor for a digital one because it couldn't be monitored by a scanner. (This was many years ago)

I remember many years ago when there were lots of 49 MHz intercoms I stumbled on a strange signal. I swear it sounded like a woman moaning and groaning having sex. After about 15 or 20 minutes of this the moaning turned into crying. It was a baby intercom all along. I sure got a laugh after that.

"The off-duty officer had his portable radio in the trunk of his car and forgot to turn it off. The portable radio was inadvertently activated while the officer was driving. "

I wonder if this was Blue Tooth in Promiscuous Mode? Pun Intended....

I'm confused....the person was playing an "audio book" from his phone? to connected his car speakers? and also the radio was connected at the same time? but it was connected and receiving that audio and then transmitting? so simply connecting to youtube and playing a video while the apx is connected will cause it to PTT and transmit whatever audio?

If this wasn't so serious, it would be funny.
Years back, a buddy left his VOX on then watched TV unaware he was broadcasting on 20 meters.

The radio was in the trunk, keyed up, but not connected to the car's audio. Thus, whatever was being played came through the speakers, most likely the rear, and into the mic.

With the Chicago Police in the process of switching to ENC P25, I'm gonna miss the days of analog. There was never a moment when an open mic (or Open Key as we say here) got interesting, funny, or downright cruel. One time, I remember 2 cops having a conversation via an Open Key about how angry they were about "last night's Bears game" that was heard on one of the Citywide freqs.

Curse of the keyed mic. Had a Captain that liked to keep his radio on his hip, not a problem. But he would forget to turn it off when he got in a vehicle. After awhile the first thing a driver would ask him when you got in and started up was is your radio off? Another time I was off and had my scanner on and heard a keyed mic and did a fast dial on my phone as someone was in the office and had sat on the counter and managed to key the base station radio. Was able to save a good friend before damage could be done, he answered his phone and all I said was keyed radio before he could say a word more. The dreaded keyed mic can happen to anyone, anytime and normally it is when you do not want it to happen.

I found some of those a few years back on MURS. Back when Dakota Alert still used to make the superior VHF models with BNC connectors. I couldn't resist the urge and screamed into it at 1am late one night with a handheld and it was never heard from again after.

No idea where it came from but I found it through the sensor that sends voice announcements. "Attention! Alert Zone 3!"

On the old Popular Wireless forum, we had a discussion about that for what seems like years, attempting to track down someone whom I think was in upstate NY. Their signal was heard all over the NY/NJ/DE corridor.

Man I miss that place, I used to be a GMRS OP from 2010-2015.

Wonder if the system you were hearing was installed on top of a really tall building, there's also similar functioning commercial units sporadically made by some companies for call box systems and door sensors etc that run higher power. As for the Dakota Alert I went walking around with the portable scanner seeing if I could trip a sensor anywhere but never had any luck.

I remember that thread, went on for quite a while.
