If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just bought 2 of these off E-bay, I will give them a try. I have two G5s, one VHF and one Uhf. I bought 2 Motorola half size ones off Amazon for about $16 each and also cut them back. They work and don't pull the pin out. Once I did try the 800mhz on my G5 long antenna and did pull the pin out. Put it back in and works fine, not doing that again.

I'm looking for a BNC adapter that is safe to use with this radio - any suggestions?

I was curious about the depth of the recessed center connector on the Kenwood and so I measured it using a tire tread gauge (Yes, I know. It's not the most scientific method to use, but it's better than guessing. :)) The depth is identical to both the Unication antenna SMA as well as the BNC adapter I use.

This is a great antenna! You can really hear the difference in fringe reception areas. Thanks for the find @PapaG !

i got one of the Kenwoods, very nice on average about a 5 DB gain over the stubby, trimmed it as advised and it didn't kill the center pin

After a while using , it’s not heart stopping performance because the unications are already outstanding receivers however it should help with some fringe areas

I think the stock antenna will impress you, Indpls has terrible simulcast issues, i bought a G5 and with the stock ant it works excellent i get about a 25 to 30 mile radius coverage, i only changed the ant for looks. i use a moto 800 SMA NAC800 something like that, it works as well as the stock ant. but not much better.

I would like to connect my G4 to a mobile antenna on my vehicle, because I know it would help my receive the adjacent county to mine. I am looking for a recommendation for an adapter and a decent mobile antenna

As far as the adapter goes, search for an SMA female to BNC female that will fit the BaoFeng UV-5R radios. The SMA connector should have the necessary depth as the OEM antennas do.

I bought these because they have the extra ring that protects the G5's (or G4 in your case) SMA connector from any stress. The center pin does not push the Unications center pin down. I use with the Remtronix 800 antenna.
