If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Although it seems counter-intuitive, I have not found a Motorola stubby antenna (tried several) that can beat the OEM antenna receiving ability. To get better reception, I have had to use a gain antenna. The ones I have found that don't damage or push in the pin are certain model Kenwood gain antennas. They have the same recess as the OEM antenna, however, they do need the rubber skirt trimmed like the Moto antennas. I use the Kenwood KRA-32K (700-800mhz) on my G5. And the Kenwood KRA-27 (440-490mhz) on my G3 UHF. If you decide to purchase a Kenwood, do so from a reputable dealer, there are a lot of knock offs out there.

I have found all the Moto antennas will push the pin lower, and even had one take out the pin when removed. If you put a Moto antenna on and leave it on, it is not a problem. But if you regularly change antennas, the pin will be lowered to a point that the OEM antenna will not make a good connection.
Is it easy to open the unit and push the pin back up?

not really, i used a tiny pair of needle nose pliers and gently put it back in, seems to work fine
Isn't the other side of that pin connected to either a circuit board or a component?

I don’t think so, I was a dummy and put a moto antenna on it before reading this, it pulled the pin out, no indication of a solder joint at the base

You just placed the pin back into the hole ? How did you know the correct depth ? and worked normal after.

I apologize if this has been covered already - I'm looking into getting a Unication G4 and have just started studying the threads on this forum.

Looking at the picture of the Unication antenna here, the Unication's SMA connector looks very similar to the connector used on my Kenwood HTs.

If that's the case, a KRA-32 or KRA-36 would work.

You are correct the Kenwood antennas will work on the G4 and G5. I have both a G4 and G5 and use the Kenwood antenna on them.
Is there any trimming of the rubber skirt necessary to achieve a good fit? How is the performance compared to the Unication stubby?

Do you have RSSI comparison of the two antennas?
Answered back at post #60 in this thread among others.
I have similar results ( +2 bars over the blue banded stubby ) using the Remtronix REM-800B 800mhz duck with adapter
