To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I finally upgraded to 4.0 and the latest firmware. Then I read the radio and PPS doesn’t show the TGIDs. The radio’s got multiple trunking systems and TGs, but E6 is only labeled as “Conventional Group ID Settings”. It looks like it only brought in the aliases but not the TGIDs. In fact, it’s not even showing a column for trunking TGIDs, only conventional. Is there a way to see the TGIDs somewhere? Thanks.

Systems are created in tab C1 then in tab E2 you import them which is where you will see the TGs, tab E6 is only for conventional settings

What was your fix here ? I just ran into same thing.

Moved from 3x to 4x; migrated a profile over which had 368 P25T TGID listed in 3x.

E6 Conventional Group ID setting now as 373 rows (it grew by 5 ?) .. but 368 of the rows only have Group Alias; the P23C TGID is blank.

I checked my C1 here and confirmed empty.
Funny thing is if I look at E7 Zone & Channel - my original TGIDs are showing correctly on the Zones and in Available list to add/remove

Guessing I missed a step in upgrading? All I did was F1 Import Single Profile and grabbed my latest export from 3x

On 4.0.39 (Windows 11 via Parallels on Mac)

thx

Release notes when 4x came out strongly suggested you create a new profile. You lose several features of 4x when you are using a 3x profile and they do not always convert correctly.

Open to doing that given all of the new structure. Just did a blank profile read on 4.x of a G5 last programmed on 3.x and have the same issue in 4x of it not showing the TGIDs even though they are in the G5 and on the Zone programming E7 page.

What would is the suggested path here ?

Something like .. ??
1. Export TGID and systems only from 3.x (help here please)
2. Create new blank profile in 4x
3. Import from step 1 (help here please)
4. Program G5 with "fresh" 4x profile ?

thx

posting for the benefits of others who come stumbling along as I was and might see this before reading 7 pages in the 4.x thread... ya the new 4.x = build yourself a new code plug if you want to stay as fresh/clean as possible... also buried in that 7 page thread is discussion one the 2.02 firmware and doing fresh clean factory resets of your G5s ..

(copied this as posted by other user..)
Getting pretty good success with 2.02 after following this advice. Here is what I did:
- factory reset pager (enable menu option in PPS E8 then do via pager menu)
- updated firmware to 2.02
- factor reset pager again
- performed a Read Device into new profile
- loaded system into the new profile

Only after importing a system to public resource manager on C1 did all of my TGIDs (that I just read from pager programmed on 3.x) start showing on E2. Very strange behavior in PPS for sure. As I was working through the steps below I went back to my old profile (the profile pulled from pager build on 3.x) and waaaammmm .. there are all of my TGID showing on all of my systems on E2. Given this and what others have posted seems to be something strange lurking in there. Noted my 4.x install was on a clean VM, then fresh read of pager built on 3.x, pager worked but TGIDs did not display (just like post #1 in thread), did import to C1 Public resource manager, and it made all of the TGIDs show up in the E2 on pager profile,... so if anyone wants to attempt to re-create do a fresh install of 4.x.

****************

All that said I was working what could be edited as "best practice" when moving from 3x to 4x ? Maybe something like this for the WIKI ?.. others here who do more of these might have suggestions .. but so far I have

When moving from 3.x to 4.x you if just read from your pager into a new profile on 4.x in attempt to keep your old systems and TGs the TGIDs will be in your E2 tab of the pager profile within your P25 system. 4x has moved them to be part of the P25 system they are a part of instead of a separate area in PPS.

Given the re-structuring done in 4.x it is best practice to build a new code plug from scratch.

To build new code plug from scratch on 4x .. Before going into your actual pager profile -
  1. go to C1 (Public Resource Manager / aka P25 Trunking System Manager) / Add in System - note that TGIDs are now within their respective systems. Several methods todo to this ..// (use Import Radio Reference button, add button or import button), if importing from RR take care not to bring all freq but only control channels
  2. factory reset pager (enable menu option in PPS section E8 if missing) then do via menu on pager
  3. update firmware to 2.02 (if already on firmware 2.02 then skip to step 5)
  4. factory reset pager again
  5. performed a Read Device into new profile (this is your new base blank profile)
  6. Load system into the new profile on E2 use Add button - add from system resources (will pull from C1 Public Resource Manager)
  7. save and program to your pager
