Uniden ANL vs NB

I was wondering if someone could explain the specific differences betwen ANL and NB? I've read several places that NB will block the sharp spikes of noise, but i've also seen the same said about ANL.

So what specifically does each do? and what side to they operate on: the power or antenna or audio?

I'm new to the hobby, bought a PRO505XL which seems to rx more electrical noise from my car than it does any real signal. I feel like i should have spent the money on a PC78LTX, but I'm trying to understand the features. All the Uniden manual says is something vague like "ANL helps reduce ignition noise.... NB helps reduce ignition noise".

Problem is that link (and other information i've found) groups ANL and NB together. I was wondering what each one does specifically.

A noise blanker stops the audio for the microseconds duration of the noise pulse where as the limiter just reduces the peak of the noise kind of like placing 2 diodes opposite polarity across the speaker wires. My old tube type motorola is unuseable in Springfield VA with the blanker off as well as my motrac on 10 meters just above the CB band the noise level is higher there then anywhere else I have ever been.

Might just be bad electric line insulators I suspect they are old enough. My noise blanker on my Motorola U71LHT 100 watt 10 meters wouldnt be use able without the blanker since i couldn't hear the other ham I was in contact with. My 6 meters isnt much better without the blanker turned on. I notice the noise when I go south from Keene Mill on Backlick right in that area.
