If you set them all for the "Break-In" mode, the unit puts a 16-hr slow charge on the battery whether it's fully charged or fully empty. Sure they were all set to the same mode setting (Break-In)? Mode has to be set for each cell as you put it in. If they were all on "Break-In" mode it will take about 48-hrs to complete no matter what their charge state was when starting.

OK I don't know what happened I put one by one back in and made sure they were on break in mode and looks like they are working correctly. Last time I got 10/11 mins. I am on hour 2 and all of them are still charging/breaking in

Since the charge time for break-in is 16 hours, fanatics will first let the 9000 safely discharge them, and then run the break-in.

However, if you don't do this, all it means is that the first of the two charge cycles it does will be a slight overcharge the first time around if your batteries were not totally discharge to begin with. You won't hurt them, but it all depends on how fanatical you are.

Also note that it will display the capacity measured during the intervening discharge cycle, BUT unless you happen to catch that measurement during the 1-hour rest period, you will have to wait until it finishes the second charge. When it does finish, it will once again display the overall capacity it measured during the discharge period.

Basically, as long as one tells the 9000 what the capacity of the cells are when doing a break-in, it will automatically calculate and set the proper charge and discharge current for you, and do a timed charge.

In fact, this break-in measurement is about the closest you'll get to battery manufacturer's specs as far as capacity goes, since the Maha follows the battery industry standards.

So again fanatics when they make their capacity measurements will not merely charge to full and do a discharge, but will utilize the break-in method for the most accuracy.

Caution - at some point one may become so engrossed with battery charging, that their scanner starts to collect dust. :)

OK so I am starting to figure out the modes and the best way to use them. Thanks again for all the replies and info

That's where I just got mine. My order was for the charger, (1) 8 pk of powerex 2400 mah imedion (3) 4 pks powerex 2700 mah. With shipping it will be 111.00 total

Mine shipped already from Amazon. I did not buy batteries yet as I am still a Radio Shack fan of their branded batteries. If you get yours first, please let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Just received my package today. I'm going to start a breaking shortly. I can battery performance yet as I haven't even used my first set of powerex yet. They are still in break in mode on the maha. I will say that after reading many posts I decided on them because they have a good reputation for consistency and have a high mah. Being that I really on use rechargeable for my high use items I didn't feel the need to get the LSD eneloops.

Yeah. Although the amazon shipper screwed up my order and sent me (1) 4 pack of imedion batteries instead the 8 pack with larger case. 23.90 for 4 batteries is quite expensive. I have sent them an email and hopefully they will send me the original 8 pack for my inconvenience.

Lawman...the Opus does what the 9000 does, correct? It was my understanding that they both perform the same functions.

Am I correct? The reviews for the opus have all been very good.

Thanks

As far as I see as much. I think the charge increments are not as deep with the Opus but it has charge mode, discharge/refresh mode/ charge/test mode, quick test mode it also as stated has an adapter to to c/d. I also like the full info screen. Smaller but you don't have to wait to cycle to the battery your looking at and write it down so quick. Easy push button on each cell to get all your stats

It also states it will charge batteries with high impedance but when detected will reduce the charge to lower amount in hopes of saving the cell

I just paid $17.99 for a four pack of AA batteries yesterday, (Radio Shack) much more than what Amazon is charging. (2500 mAh) I bought two packs of AAA (4 pack) for $13.99 each. Perhaps "Radio Shaft" would be a better name; :( but its my own fault..I have always tried to support them.

Lawman..or anyone..I have a question about the Opus. I got mine today, and put in 4 AAA batteries right out of the box. I set them all for charge. When they were fully charged, the display said "full." However, when I cycle thru different info for each battery, it shows the MaH at either 0, or another low number, such as 2, 3, etc.

Should this not closely match the MaH rating of the battery?; in this case, these batteries were rated at 850 MaH.

Just want to make sure that both the batteries and charger are working. I assume I am just missing something here.

Thanks

Greg
