• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

This guy in video below reacted fairly well. But the maroon behind him was too close and started to lose it so cameraman went to right.

Idiots in left lane are all on suicide mission. That right lane wreck should it have happened immediately in front of big truck means truck has right of way to move to passing lane instantly. “Presence” is not right-of-way. Your vehicle in left lane jam is going to get body-slammed down across median, sayonara.

There’s no such thing as Fast Lane and Slow Lane.
It’s illegal to bunch up and to block passing lane entry.

A pass means one must execute it in the shortest time/space possible. If that means “speeding”, in your car then why are you passing?

Vehicle in travel lane also obligated to get vehicle passing around quickest (back out of it enough)

Cooperation is both the spirit and the letter of the law

CB always “on” is best. I run cophase to have best ears of which tallest antennas is part. I don’t want trailer blocking signal capture (it does). Most big trucks have poor radio rigs.

This driver had a “decent” following distance. All the cars in the left lane need some jail time.

OP, don’t stop just because you get a decent SWR. Get best ears, etc. Get a plan and make further improvements. Worth every bit.

Overcoming the deficiencies of other radio rigs is the game. Distant Early Warning.

“Brake Check” is insufficient.

“Emergency Stop, Brake Check” (repeat)
“Interstate 40, MILE MARKER 368
Westbound!!”

Keep repeating.

Other drivers are likely to only hear direction of travel. So, repeat.

With cophase it’s about 35/40W average per antenna given you aren’t straining factory wiring (best to run your own ASAP). I’ve used this in many trucks.

Big trucks need radio crutches. Amp is left leg.

Gets you a few more miles to have questions answered. Gets your emergency warning out to where it can be heard.

DSP in the audio is the real game-changer. The right leg crutch. I’ve posted elsewhere at length. (Also makes listening to a “digital” radio easier on the ears).

Hear, . . and Get Heard.

Lots of info.
I'll get things on order and next time I can swing by home I'll get them.
Also, I have this stud, a roadpro, would this be better than larger one I have currently installed?

I love this place. Santa’s Workshop.
He doesn’t stay open late. Had the -p version 203 around last year. Also had some Skipshooters in the rafters.

It’s a little funny getting in there. Have to get off US-380 at grocery store just before his street and come in from back way in order to park across from. (Study sat pics; he’s at an old house). You’d be parked facing US-380 is the point to leave and turn left or right.

— The Petro a very short distance west at Weatherford, TX has a small shop, well-run.

— There’s another shop that’s okay a couple miles short across from the Pilot. Uses an MFJ-259 analyzer, just doesn’t know much about its capabilities.

Can’t say what they have for antennas. Larry’s usually has something long.

Those studs are not that great either, when you tighten them it starts crushing the internal white insulation between the brass and chrome parts. They are ok for short 4ft or less antennas but larger antennas will work the mount loose. I like a mount that I install once and it lasts a really long time with whatever I stick on it from small whips to 9ft stainless steel, Hamsticks, etc. The Sirio mount will do that and most will need constant tightening then the insulator will squish and fail.

Are you using the SWR meter on the radio to measure your SWR?

Is your Astatic PDC-1 still in-line?

I had it inine but I don't think it's working as intended. I don't have a patch cable, only a 9ft coax spare. Radio was claiming 7+ swr with meter inline.

I'm gonna be heading back northeast. I'm just 3 months into this career, still a rookie. Is easier the little experience I have to get a CB going on a car than this darn truck haha.

Yes, if you were trying to use an SWR meter in the radio, while having another SWR meter in-line it will show an incorrect SWR. The radio would think the in-line SWR meter is part of the antenna.

Gotcha. But does calibrating the meter change my swr? I don't understand how it works exactly.

Composite-body fleet trucks are a PITA the first time through.

I’ll let you fill things in, but my old 7’ Skipshooter plow horse now has a new home.

It was a pleasure to have met a man new to the business with right attitude and as willing to bite off a big chunk of responsibility as he has done. My hat is off to him as I understand what that entails.

going anywhere near So Cal in the future? If so I could check out your setup and dial it in.

I sincerely hope the OP will grab a load going out that way.

I found him to be more than just an apt student for my abilities. Skip him forward a couple of grade levels would be good for us all.

Speaking as a truck driver I know what it means to have a good man with a very good radio rig out on the big road.

There’ll be those who’ve no clue their journey on this earth didn’t end prematurely his type exists. Those reading this may understand when suddenly they’re passing several big trucks at a much higher rate of speed than just a moment ago.
