Ain't NO thing. No cares, man...

Who’s debating??? I thought we were all pretty much expressing our wishes that Uniden would at least say something (how much does that cost?) since the competition has already started the race. As far as telling others to use “common sense and logic”… well, I’m sorry that nothing has ever bothered you, and everything has always gone the way you wanted. Uniden makes a GREAT product, I will take there durability and selectivity over GRE any day. Yes, it’s a hobby, but not for all. While I see that you are already all knowing, there are some here who scan for a living.

Dewey

Dude. NO debate! Really.

Well, Dewey I don't get worked up over worrying about a scanner. Such TRIVAL things are not worth the consideration.

:cool:Uniden MAYBE doing something, YOU do NOT know. Ranting is getting you, WHAT??? How they responding?;) RUSHING you out your dream scanner? Got a delivery date? Sort of think Uniden is on top of things. BUT, just not to YOUR liking. Don't think they gotta explain how they doing business to you cause your upset.:p Heck, they will not even say how many scanners they even make! SECRET!

Depending on a scanner to make a living? Invest and get the proper equipment to DO your job properly to make a living. See what shortcuts and doing on the cheap gets you?:p Like using a CAP GUN to pretend your a cop and a scanner as your "police radio".

Just commenting on the way you and a few others got your feathers all roughed up over TDMA thing now re read and see what I said. Just giving MY OPINION. You spin it up any way you want. :p

IT don't make me real concerned one way or another. Actually the way some of you all carry on, I find it funny...I am going to sell my Uniden cause they dropped the ball on this is hilarious. And I still think there is a LOT of OVER the top reaction to this. I have no vested interest one way or another! :D

If you are depending on a HOBBY radio to make a living, hmmm..

I really don't care about the quality or manufacturer of these scanners. YOU are the one MAKING it an issue. I have no care or concern.:D

Personally, I think there needs to be more ENCRYPTION
used. There ! :D

Again it's just a hobby. I ain't going to waste bandwidth debating THIS non issue.
Just made an observation stating facts THAT'S ALL, YOU want it to be more.
No, sir ain't going there. :p

Now you better get back to work. TaTa.

Just having fun enjoying life and NOT getting worked up over a "hobby radio" Sorry you got your blood pressure up. Would have NEVER posted if I knew you would be affected this way. Not debating this.

:DBeautiful company, Nice glass of RED, excellent cigar and looking at the mountains, watching the hawks in the thermals .... NO problems, man. NO PROBLEMS...It's all good. Now shutting down this laptop and enjoying hot blue skies of Tucson!!!...

You all carry on! As you were.

Enjoy! Adios Amigos!.

Added all the EMOTICONS to show the humor of this issue. Don't care

Not only just decoding TDMA in Loudoun VA but also receive Fairfax County Public Safety TGs in Middleburg VA with a rubber duck antenna (which is sometime I was never able to do with the 996XT). So the radio seems to have "better reception" as well. The TDMA issue drove me so nuts that I did buy a PRS 800 but I am loyal to the 996XT and I am just waiting for an update like everyone else.

Why the Hell are you even here? Yes, it is a hobby. You have things you like and things you don't care about. I hate sports, but I don't go around to sports forums and try to stir up anything. I don't think anyone here loses sleep over it. I think you're more uptight than anyone expressing their desire to have Uniden produce a product.

i like uniden, I was 100% uniden up until about 2 years ago when I bought my pro-106 (psr 500) I really like the scanner. I actually like it more than my 396 T that I had. I am toying with buying a psr-800 but i really don't like the fact that it doesn't have a keypad and it depends on a database for the freqs. If the database isn't updated yet, you're out of luck. would I buy uniden again? absolutely. imo uniden builds a very sturdy scanner. my gre product, feels a little flimsy and there are plenty of reports out there that say yes the radio is very sensitive, but those same reports say the front end is easily overloaded which is an issue with me. there are plenty of pro's and cons with every radio. you just have to go with the radio that's best for you.

Let me throw in some info on Uniden (Paul-Upman), here in my area when we had a county go to a new system =Motorola Shuffle Trunking Paul worked with us to get the 396XT/996XT to work on this system using "new" "tables" and he even figured out the tables for the GRE/RS scanners to work on the system...So, i have faith in Uniden to be able to compromise the 396/996 XT models with a firmware download to do the new Digital Phase11 TDMA....

You get excited about things we don't. No one was bothering you or asking for your unrelated opinions. Jesus Christ, what a jerk!

Did you search RIGHT HERE on this website's database and forums?

I was only trying to indicate to N8IAA (Larry?) that "statistically" he should have little expectations for "positive" answers to "HIS" question. I actually had "NO" questions of my own. Also, years back, when I was employed, co-workers from many departments, came to me to request that I perform internet searches for them. But, I thank you all for your concern, and your contributions.

BUT, the big question will be CAN the 800 handle Phase II? What if all the current adopters UPGRADE to Phase II? Will the FIRMWARE in the 800 be able to handle the NEW Phase II coding ( ie. How much memory space on board the 800 verses the size of the new code?) Will there BE some hardware CHANGES to the circuitry to PROPERLY decode Phase II transmissions? AND you bet your sweet butt that Motorola WILL get a majority of the existing TDMA systems UPGRADE to PHASE II....

You're talking about TDMA and Phase 2 like they're two different things but they're NOT.

TDMA is part of the Phase 2 standard and is by far the biggest and main change. In fact, for our scanning purposes the ONLY two things to be mostly concerned about is the scanner handling a few more and different control channel messages/instructions and the voice channels which would now carry two of the SAME P25 protocol transmissions. So the scanner needs to know how to handle the "separation" or "picking apart" the individual transmissions in each channel. That's it in a nutshell without getting too convoluted with technical jargon.

So in conclusion, a scanner that can handle TDMA transmissions has already overcomed the biggest hurdle in becoming Phase 2 compliant/compatible.

Um, not quite, you can program anything you want into the radio via the included free software.

Really? A bit over the top, but since Marshall didn't ding you for it, I am just pointing out it really wasn't called for.

Yes.

You're talking about TDMA and Phase 2 like they're two different things but they're NOT.

TDMA is part of the Phase 2 standard and is by far the biggest and main change....
And that is the crux of why folks are buying the PSR-800. Any other minor changes can be handled by firmware updates.

This entire topic is reminiscent of when Project 25 systems were just coming on line and Uniden did not have a scanner capable of monitoring them. Sure, Uniden was the first to be able to decode P25 voice used conventionally or on Motorola systems, but when a Project 25 system hit the airwaves they were not ready. The GRE built Pro-96 was the first one able to do so.

It just seems that GRE released a scanner of capable of handling TDMA before Uniden. Please note I said released, I have no inside information, but I have to believe that Uniden is not sitting idly by while TDMA systems keep coming online.

As Marshall says, have faith.

support..?

At least guys,

you can see how we feel about the support for Trbo and other systems outside U.S. No one even bothers about us and the Mototrbo, Tetra and so on..

As we did, you might as well get used to it :)))

I don't think anyone has to "get used to" not being able to receive TDMA on Uniden scanners. I'm sure they will include it in a future model release (however, maybe not until the official Phase II standard is ratified).

The US is Uniden's primary market for almost everything they make. And more importantly, scanners are a relatively small part of Uniden's product lineup. High-end scanners require a significant amount of R&D as these new complex scanners are becoming more and more expensive to develop, and the market for them is quite small compared to other products such as cordless phones, etc. Uniden can spend a good amount of money developing a new cordless phone model but they can sell millions of them, the market for scanners is much much smaller, so there is simply not as much money to be made; as a result their scanner division may not always receive the money and resources it needs to develop/improve new/existing models as quickly as we would like them to.

With regards to the European standard TETRA, that is another animal in itself. There are several threads which go into detail about why TETRA cannot (and probably will not ever) be decoded by a scanner (by any manufacturer).
