Not allowing simple text-based copy/paste/export within the GRE-supplied programs protected the RR database.

Not releasing the data file formats to 3rd-party software developers protected proprietary features of the scanners as well as the RR database.

Protects it? From what? Junk copied into EZScan being sent up to the database?

Perhaps the $800 version does DMR and NXDN trunking. Then they would move pretty quickly. But the $800 is obviously outrageous (at least for the US market) and hard to believe anyone would pay that price. When you start getting into these high-end scanners, doubt that there are many people with no real knowledge of scanning who are purchasing them.
On another note. Does anyone know why there has been no third-party software like Butel or others for this particular groups of scanners (PSR-800, WS1080, RS-668, and now the WS1095). My own scanning (and I'm sure some others) involves scanning without listening. In other words, I often will run two or 3 scanners with virtual control/logging just looking for rare channels/TGs, new P25 Phase 2, etc.
Not being able to log for long periods with the group of scanners (unless I am missing something) is a feature I really miss. Has anyone ever come across such software for these scanners?
One way you can do it (not optimal) is to turn everything on to record. Then you can have the scanner regurgitate the recordings (a log of sorts) into ezscan and review it. See something interesting, you can listen to it.

I do the same type of scanning but I use a $20 R820T SDR dongle and Unitrunker. You can only do one system at a time, but if you have a few old PC'S around, it's $20 for another setup. I find it works better than using a scanner.

From copying the RR database to any other app for any other scanner.

If the app allowed unfettered copy/paste/export, the entire USA and Canada RR database becomes "free" to anyone. When the apps were initially developed, it was presumed that Lindsay would have a problem with this.

I can see the reason for copy/paste not being enabled to protect the RR data. Remote functionality is the single reason I can't use GRE/RS/Whistler SD card scanners for my feeds. Two of my radios are remotely located, so to change anything I have to make a trip :(

Maybe Whistler will in whatever is designed next, allow remote control functionality, even if only based in the provided software?

I see the latest offering on Amazon is now $512 and free shipping. Have not bought from this vendor but scanners are one of their main products.

Just out of curiosity, does or will the new Whistler WS1095 let us do a custom frequency start & end range? For example, I would like to be able to set a frequency starting range of 163.0000 Mhz to an end frequency search range of 174.0000 Mhz which is what I currently do with a nice feature on my Uniden BCT15X Analog only scanner.

I am looking to upgrade to a digital scanner finally after much needed time such as the Whistler WS1095 to try to catch back up on hearing & listening to what is going on around me like I used to be able to with using an analog only scanner but need, want & am looking for the same or similar (custom frequency search range) feature to hopefully be on the new Whistler WS1095 Scanner if I am lucky. I have not yet heard or read anywhere of this as an available feature on the WS1095.

Please current owners of the Whistler WS1095, let me know after you look into this valuable feature that I am looking for in the WS1095.

Thanks

Awesome!! I do see that the WS1095 does in fact have the important feature that I was looking & hoping for. It is called (Limit Search) as I can see on that online user manual that you just showed me.

That is a feature that I will always be using once I purchase the Whistler WS1095 to help myself discover new analog & digital frequencies that may or may not be listed on RadioReference. It does sound similar & comparative to the feature that I have been using for some years now on my Uniden BCT15X Scanner called (Custom Search).

My pro-93 and Pro-2006 had that feature. Worked great on cell phones at time.
