And we were all looking to Whistler for something better than Uniden.

I don't see all the excitement here, quite frankly. These are PSR 800 radios re packaged as mobile
Units with a removable head. PSR 800 is an OLD radio, therefore so is the 1095 despite it's new
Body. Certainly no reason to run out and plunk down over 500 bucks on this thing and I am not
So sure Whistler is going dump major R and D money for a new design.

For my money you simply cannot beat the HP1 , HP2 and the new 996 and 325 p2
Scanners.

I was not looking for Whistler to come out with something better then Uniden. I was looking for Whistler to put out a radio that works.

It works, what are you talking about?!? The IF output to Headphone jack is something extra, not a diagnosis that the radio doesn't work!

The 1095 is a great radio, and I don't care what the haters say. I know I will be buying one when the 2nd production run comes out. I am fully aware what I am getting (a mobile / base PSR800). I love my PSR800 .. so for me this is an easy decision.

No problem Dave. I just want a radio that works, I don't need bells and whistles like the other brand. I use the radio to listen to and that's it. I have not owned a base/mobile scanner since the old Bearcat 210 I had, I really want to get one of these 1095s.

The only problem I have with my WS-1080 and my WS-1095 is that I can't scan mutiple sites within a trunking system like I can with my Uniden radios.

For some reason the radio only scans site 1 and non of the other sites. Strange.

... hey fireboat... I don't understand... when you program the "standard way" with EZ SCAN it give's you an option of checking off the box next to the TG's you want and checking off the box next to the sites you want... in counties with multiple site's site one is usually on the other side of the county for me and I don't even check that off... I just check off 2-3 that are closest to the part of the county where I will be using the radio... if it only used site one and not the sites I checked off when I checked off my TG's I wouldn't hear anything, it's too far away... the reason I don't check off all the sites is that it takes too long to scan the system and may latch on to a site that is further from the nearest site... maybe I don't understand your problem... I'm very familiar with EZ- SCAN and the 1095 as I have owned a PSR-800 since it came out... just for the record... I really like my 1095, I don't care about the IF output thing... p25 digital sounds much better than my x36's and the display is easy to read and VERY BRIGHT... Bob...

What's the IF output thing? What does this cause? Does it mean you can't use an external pre-amp speaker?

That's how the PSR-800 operated also. You have to duplicate your TG's into a separate system for each site you want to monitor.

The multi-site feature doesn't have a "Stat" option like the PSR-500 family did. It only works like the "Roam" option.

stingray... I would think the IF output would let you use programs on your computer for virtual operation... my 1095 is in the car and will stay there... there IS an external jack for my speaker... I'm not going to send it in for the IF output install... everything works well with it... it's a nice unit... P-1 and P-2 digital is crisp and clear (unlike my x36's) and the display is easy to read, bold and bright (unlike my x36's) Bob...

I wasn't sure what IF output is.
Sounds like the 1095 is a X36 killer.

The bottom line

... it's hard to say if Whistler will "kill" Uniden sales... despite poor quality control, dim displays, poor p25 decoding (only on some radios or some people don't know the difference) Uniden is still the leader... RR gives them all the attention with a forum but refuses to acknowledge Whistler as a scanner company and won't give them a forum saying "they are GRE scanners"... news flash... GRE is gone!... BTW... why is there a Rat Shack scanner forum?... they don't have anything to do with scanners... GRE made them... Whistler is more of a scanner company than Rat Shack... Whistler techs will be installing the IF output in the earphone jack on the front of the 1095 free of charge (there is still a speaker jack on the back) and the support on the phone is excellent... the bottom line is I need a radio that performs well where I can see what I'm scanning in the car when driving... the 1095 works for me with the remote head on the steering column ... 73's ... Bob ... P.S....to those who say they are tired of the complaints and support Uniden... the $1000 dollars I paid for 2 doorstops gives me the right to complain all I want, I'm very disappointed with them... I have been a Uniden user since they took over Electra in the early 70's...

Trentbob it has been made clear when Whistler designs and builds there own scanner NOT A COPY OF A GRE scanner then and only then will the Whistler get post in its own forum. You have your view others have their view of Uniden GRE and Whistler I have $1800.00 in Uniden scanners in my hands and over $4000.00 in Radioshack scanners built for Radioshack by GRE. All of my scanners work as expected when I bought them I did my homework before I paid for each one to make sure the scanner would do what I wanted it to do before I bought it. I did not buy my scanners based on what I thought they would do and complain because I was wrong and Uniden would not make the changes I thought was best and what I wanted.

WHATEVER...

... I'm glad your x36's work well.. you're lucky... some do, some don't (quality control)... doing this for over 40 years I know exactly what I'm buying and why... as a newspaper photographer my radios are a tool and are critical in doing my job... some people have more knowledge and experience than others, I do... that's fine, that's why this site exist so those who know can help those who don't and those who know can talk with others that know... we never stop learning and yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I have mine.

Why wait? From talking to Whistler there is no difference between them if you don't plan on using IF Out. Even if you did, say months later after buying it, its still a free update!

You'll still need to pay shipping to the repair location. That adds to the price of the radio if you really want the IF out feature.

I live in Canada ... so shipping the scanner is not a simple process and it is very costly. However in the end, I am not going to use this scanner for DSD+ ever, so it is a non issue for me.

I ordered my 1095 today, should be here in less than a week. But the cost will be steep .. like around $750 Canadian.

IF means it outputs discriminator tap audio to the headphone jack for use with programs such as unitrunker. You will never need it of use it if you are not a dedicated hobbyist, with good PC knowledge too.

Wow. I hope most of the difference between your price and $500 is exchange rate. If so, had not realized it was this different.

Also going to order one of these. Have the 800 and always liked it. Has interesting installation option possibilies in both of my vehicles which a tough installs.

Enjoy your radio.
