I am looking at it as a non-Uniden base. All my plug into the wall radios are Uniden. After a Whistler base radio and the reason I am interested is because I expect it to be a PSR-800 radio that is in mobile configuration.

Understood about the base/mobile aspects, I always preferred those over handhelds, I just like the overall beefier construction and the fact that they don't tip over like HH's.

Would you have any reason to believe that there would be little or no performance difference between a PSR-800, a WS1080, a PRO-668 and a W1095? Aren't they really all the same inside?

I think the pro-668 and WS-1080 are pretty much the same with minor differences, like the better BNC connector and the better swivel belt clip on the WS-1080 and menu features, otherwise receiver handles and sounds the same. With PSR-800 there is a difference then the pro-688 and WS-1080. I just notice the digital voice quality is slightly different and scanning is different. With same programming and SD card brand and size. RF front end do believe is the same. Do think they may have kept same design, but revisions to on the newer models, maybe DSP, DVSI IC, audio stage, or ETC Only way to know is to see detail close up view of internals, or data sheet But do you all three and notice PSR-800 preform about the same, but doesn't quite sound the same and tone squelch.

Those looking to use the Whistler 1095 (or 1080) for mobile purposes may find the GPS capability convenient. Not related to raw performance though.

I expect (and hope) that its pretty much exactly the same radio. Right down to the hope that I can load configurations into both (all 3) radios from the same software. ... like I do with the combo of 996XT/996P2/396XT. Only need to keep one software configuration swuared away.

Right now I am hoping I don't end up with a third piece of software to handle PSR-800, PRO-668, and WS1095.

I fear I will.... but from reading these forums there seem to be some tricks that can be used to get each radio to read the other CDAT file. At least 800/668 so far.

My Radio Shack PRO-668 will "talk and listen" to the resident RS software it came with, as well as the Whistler software I downloaded from the Whistler website this weekend. It looks like they're pretty much interchangeabe except I think RS uses the term "Playlist" while Whistler uses "Scanlist".

Good.

The PSR-800 also uses scanlist so it looks like the GRE/Whistler are consistent and only the 668/iScan combination is playlist.

Should be able to do the 1095/800 in EZScan and copy the CDAT file to the 668.

The manual is online. Its a PSR-800 in mobile format with removable front face. No GPS or Bluetooth.

Wish they did put GPS option on it, Bluetooth option would have been nice. Do like the detachable head. Look like maybe give the 536HP a shot again. The couple months old 436hp has been good so far no battery clock issues, SD card, or receptions issues with it, unlike the other 536hp's I tried and returned.

Just wondering if they fixed the 536hp issues and did a revision at least. Gave up on the siren app months ago, so not needed, would be nice. Just scared to try another one to have same issues as the last 536hp's but been around a year since and had no serious issues with 436hp so far? So think they revised them at some point, no real firmware updates in a while, so assuming at hardware level?

$699 ?????

OOOhhhh FAhhhhhh

The 668 is basically a portable version of this thing and some folks were grabbing them for 100 bucks!

This 1095 is a $350 to $400 scanner tops.

I say around $350-$400 would be fair for it. It still doesn't have the options as the x36 series. Just scared to try another 536hp, as had the first ones and had serious issues with them all. Notice they fix the issue with the 436hp as haven't had no real issues with it and used it quite a bit for the last two months and like some of the features it has. Do want a base unit, but undecided? It going to be this one, or try another 536hp?

What are some advantages of the removable faceplate?
