If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

After i got my G4 i used the older i think V1.43 for a while, and i decided maybe try V2.02. I am terrible wrong and i wanna know if anyone has a downgrade file because V2.02 has caused VERY bad lagging, crashing and other headaches. I was pressing hold on a channel and the radio went BEEEEEE.... and then turned off. If anyone has older firmware please let me know and ill send you my email because this is getting annoying. Also V2.02 theres a new bug where it thinks its out of range then randomly goes in range?

I have 3 G5s running 2.02 and they work great. I would 2nd the post about resetting and then rebuilding the CP with the new software

Truth is that this new version is extremely buggy with older hardware and no amount of factory resets, or rebuilding of profiles seems to help. I've tried the new version twice already, and the result was the same both times. First time was just a straight upgrade with issues and eventual downgrade to V1.35. The second time was when I took the advice of resetting and rebuilding everything and giving V2.02 a second chance. Same issues as before, so I again downgraded to V1.35 and all issues went away. It seems I'm not alone.

The only reason that V2+ exists is the switch to a new chipset. V2.02 is supposed to be backwards compatible, but sadly, it isn't 100% of the time.

I'll jump in here with a question..I have a G4 with 1.33 firmware (for mixed systems with 700/800 and VHF control channels) all works fine. Any benefits to upgrade firmware?

Don't do it. I did it on my G5. And it was working great before. After the firmware update. Started missing calls. Would break up more during calls. I had to downgrade back to 1.35. When I did G5 went back to normal operation.

Question,
Is Downgrading straight forward? Just point it to the older firmware and it executes with no issues?

It is the exact same as upgrading. However, if you have a newer pager with the G5N hardware, you are stuck with V2.0+ firmware.

Where does it indicate G5N?
On the pager itself, press the settings button and use the center button to toggle down to information. Select it and toggle down to the model number. If there's an "N" in the model number, you have the new chipset.

In PPS, it's on the first tab that opens when you open your profile. If your pager was made before the chip shortage that forced the change, you can downgrade. If it came with V2.0+ firmware already installed, It has the new chipset and can't go below V2.0.
