You can attach the external antenna to the amplified charger
I would do that at home with my external antenna setup. I have an Electroline drop amp at that antenna feeding a 4 way divider inside. My net gain for each of 4 scanner feeds is just below 3 dB. Works very well.

From Rowan county I can receive BRP's Doughton Mountain and Fisher's Peak. I can also receive Blowing Rock PD on 155.8725. From my mobile I cannot receive Blowing Rock PD very far out of that town when I am up there.

I am leaning towards VHF for the G5. The only reason I would do other than that might be if there was ever a chance Viper would ever have sites in the 400 band.

Never say never, but HIGHLY unlikely.
That is what I was thinking. I would expect a bit more likely 150 Mhz in maybe some part of the mountains. I read somewhere recently that some of the agencies in the mountains have retained their VHF due to a few dead spots with Viper, but I would imagine it would just mean additional 700/800 MHz sites.
