This past Sun I went by the area didn't hear much on the p25. On way back home today went through and heard some traffic not much. Guessing they still using edacs just a patch on certain p25 Tgs? I was only getting site 2.

I wonder what's up with all the patches, teardowns, patches and teardowns of the same subgroup for?

Nothing Interesting. Each time a patch is Granted on any EDACS Talkgroups the migration gateway is telling the P25 side that a patch has started or stopped. Even if the patch lasts for seconds. (If you have ever listened to EDACS they patch very frequently.):sleep:

Does anyone have the correct EDACS LCNs for both sites 1 and 2?
I'm using UniTrunker and it doesnt trunk-tracking some of the LCNs correctly.
Also I don't think there is LCN 14 for site 1 and site 20 is very quiet.

All the correct LCNs are in the database. You just may not be seeing activity on some of the LCNs. What SDR do you have?

I'm using UniTrunker and it doesnt trunk-tracking some of the LCNs correctly.
This is the default behavior for UT; You have to manually input the LCNs when setting up a system, as they won't trunktrack correctly.

Also I don't think there is LCN 14 for site 1 and site 20 is very quiet.
LCN 14 might be seldom used, but I have seen activity from time to time on that LCN according to UT. I think that site 20 is also not used and not online 24/7 and is only activated when major events are at the speedway.

How were you able to determine that there are Bad/Wrong LCNs?

decoding site 2 right now, freqs are put in as shown in the db, UT will only jump to LCN 2, 3, 7,8 9 and 15 which leads me to believe some of the LCNs in the db are out of order, although i have no scanner to verify that

Wow, that is a very old version of UT lol. I asked what kind of SDR you had because it's possible that you are not seeing those LCNs because of the spread limitations with the SDR. For example, if the SDR has 2.4 Mhz of spectrum, then you are only going to see stuff that is within 2.4 Mhz of the Active Control Channel. That means it's possible you might need 2 or More SDRs to properly decode everything.

it is very possible that active frequencies (LCNs) on the EDACS trunk will be shut down and transitioned to the P25 system. This takes time, and Volusia doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry.

So, I spoke yesterday with a reasonably in-the-loop person, and the latest info says that 1) the system should be in full use appx. Sept '24 and that 2) at least Fire/LE/EMS will be fully encrypted.

I guess that means I will save some $600 by not buying a new P25TII scanner next year.

Anyone heard anything similar?

I know I'm wasting my time even bothering to type this but I wish that Florida's legislators were to be persuaded by the listening public to pass a law or regulation that forces all public safety agencies to keep their communications in the clear, with the exception of a few dedicated encrypted channels/talkgroups reserved for situations where it's really needed. Such as active violent crime in progress scenarios.

Is there a better way to follow those dynamically assigned simulselect "65XXX" talkgroups using DSDFL?

What I mean by that is, right now Subgroups 102 and 104 are patched together into Supergroup 65115. The problem is I can't hear anything if I set DSDFL to hold on TG 104. I can hear everything just fine if I set it to hold on 65115. Since those 65XXX TGs are randomly assigned and change every so often, I have to keep changing DSDFL holding to keep listening which it gets kind of annoying overtime.

So is listening to the Volusia County (P25) system not possible?
I'm using SDR and following tutorials. I've been Importing Control and alternates along with the talkgroups from radioreference into SDR Trunk but I hear absolutely nothing on the Sanford site. Using a 2m J-pole.

are you getting solid control channel signal strength? The P25 system (to my knowledge) is not fully operational yet, so it's a bit hit-and-miss IMHO

It stays in idle status and flashes occasionally with something else but its so fast i cant read it but it's completely silent. So if they arent using P25 are they using the EDACS system. I haven't tried that since i think i need different SDR software to decode that?

I do not think there is enough voice traffic on the P25 system for it to be (currently) worthwhile to monitor. I could be wrong - I am not local to this system, but it seems that all the radio traffic on P25 is just ported over from the analog EDACS system --- meaning there are not currently P25 radios in the field.

however, for EDACS, you need to download Unitrunker, it will work with SDRs (Airspy and RTL-SDR) and track EDACS. Also, perhaps this is obvious, but analog EDACS scanners (used) are very cheap - and very effective at trunk-tracking this system. There is not enough digital traffic on the Volusia EDACS system to justify purchasing a ProVoice capable scanner - so any of the older Uniden scanners (analog) that can trunk-track will work fine until the switchover to P25 - no one seems to know the answer to "when" - my guess would be some time in 2024.
