• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

When will we get some VP8000 cases? I’m tired of ill fitting generic cases. Among other variations, I’d like a case with its own clip so I can dispense with radio mounted clip.

are you talking about a case like what Boston leather has that goes on a radio strap or are you talking more like a turtle back case?

Clipped to belt and also sitting on desk (want protection if knocked off). For field I’m just now trying chest pack. Basically the radio goes on and off my body often, thrown into or clipped onto my pack.

ya for that it is probably going to be a hard find but i do know with the Boston leather one the factory belt clip is somewhat usable depending on what battery you have on it

I'm a big fan of the Boston Leather with the D-Rings, best part it allows me to leave the belt clip on the radio!

The firefighters all use Boston Leather rigs. I have never considered a strap rig. Always thought it would be cumbersome.

I’m also looking for something. What use case / environment do you operate in. Mine sees a mix of fire/ems/law, ops and admin so the leather strap doesn’t always work.

Emergency Management esf2 stuff. Not usually crawling around in the dirt or wearing turnout gear. Maybe a kafaru ruck sack with
matching gun belt 🙄

zero9 holsters makes a nice kydex holster, with a couple different mounting options, They don't have the VP8000 listed, but I can confirm that it works with the VP6000 option, I believe they told me they were waiting to get a VP8000 to create a mold.

Boston leathers option is better than the BEE IMO, Like a couple folks mentioned, they had a couple slots cut on the rear so you can keep the belt clip.

If you would like tomorrow I can get a couple photos of the BEE case, I believe we have a couple in stock. The Boston leather cases are out with our DEMO VP's so we could just keep the belt clip on.

+1 for Zero-9 and they do list the VP6000/8000.

Probably get one of these. While I had belt use in mind I could add some molle clips for pack use. Does the radio lift out easily? I’m often setting radio on desk and don’t want to take my pants off to do it. Need occasional access to front panel as well. Also what is tek loc? Is it a rotate to remove clip?

I don’t have a VP case so I don’t know the level of retention but you will have to remove the radio from the case to use the keypad.

Tek-Lok is a non-rotating belt snap designed for duty belts but will work with others. You can put the case on your belt without taking it off though.

Ordered for VP and APX radios. Lots of extra hardware to play with. Hopefully able to quick swap from chest rig to battle belt. My packs have large generic pouches (PRC size) which is fine. Final challenge is to overcome mic cord tangle🙁

if you turned the case upside down with the radio in it without the retention cord around the channel selector I believe the radio would fall out with a couple good shakes, the retention isn't tight. When I originally spoke with Z9 months ago they said they were waiting to get a VP8000 to do a mold, but they said the dimensions of the VP8K was close to the VP6K so the VP6K should work.

Supposedly mine comes in tomorrow before noon re FedEx tracking so I guess I'll find out. The VP8000 is bigger than VP6000 for the top third of the radio which is mostly out of the kydex. Wonder if Gucci has one in the works? I'm never satisfied when fitting equipment to my person. I bought every mounting option to play with and will report what happens.
