I don't believe that Washington County has moved to Digital. There is nothing showing up on the FCC site for them and I don't see them on the states SLERS system. As far as scanners go, the one you got is ok, but for $149.99 you could have gotten the Pro-164 which can be programmed by your computer. You would also need the programming cable which is on sale for $19. Then I could build a file for your area in less than an hour and all you would have to do is uploaded it to the scanner. Also more users are familiar with using the Pro-164 so instructions on how to program your area would have been fairly simple. The 164 would have also given you the opportunity to listen to Bay County to the south of you. They are on a trunk system. Sorry to hear you’re having problems with the new scanner. I’ve seen a few of the Radio Shack racing scanners and I’m not a big fan of them.

May I suggest the PRO-164 1000-Channel Handheld Scanner - RadioShack.com
They have them instock in Radio Shack - Mitchell Sight/sound in Chipley.

I was so glad to see the email....you saved me from pulling my hair out.:) I am going to rip into Radio Shack if that know it all lady and her sidekick were lieing to me. I will have to make another trip down there and see if they repeat themselfs. I will have my little tape recorder. Then I will send the recording to the big dogs. I dont know ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I have safed enough money to buy digital, but was thinking I didnt need it. One of the Washington County Fl hospitals just changed systems, but I dont understand any of it. tx for reponding, I'll just bang my head on the wall, and safe the hair pulling for later:)

In Washington County you wouldn't need digital. The closest digital to you would be some federal channels out of Tallahassee which I can here in Santa Rosa County and you’re just out of Range of the Eglin system. Digitals are selling for $249 right now. Good luck on endeavor. If you go back to Rat Shack, have the clerk program the freqs for you if they know so much. Chances are they wouldn’t have a clue.

If programming is a problem, then also look at the Pro-107. If you know how to use an iPod then you can operate this radio. Only RS that has them in your area is the NICEVILLE-JOHN SIMS PKWY Radio Shack.

RadioShack® PRO-107 Handheld iScan Trunking Scanner - RadioShack.com

Hear all of the action in your area without the complicated programming of frequencies. The PRO-107 has a built-in SD™ card pre-programmed with the full U.S. database of all known analog public-service trunked systems as well as many conventional frequencies. Just select where you are and what you want to scan from pre-installed lists. It's as easy to use as an MP3 player is. Hit play (not SCAN) and you are scanning the local action. It just couldn't be any easier.

Good info Dan. I did not think about the Pro 107. Me thinks the folks at Mitchells sight and sound were not being truthful. Keep an eye on them. Like Dan says the pro 164 is a good choice and the 107 might be a better choice. Dan is the man with the plan and a lot of knowledge about this hobby.

SD access is not available via the supplied USB/serial cable. Firmware updates are done with the USB/Serial cable directly to the radio through the iScan software.

I dont understand what this means. first it says it is not avail with the supplied cable, then seems to turn around and say yes it can. this may also be called question 1:)

I believe it just means you can't access the SD card like you would with other SD cards. Take a digital camera, when you plug it in by the USB cable, you can access the SD card to view your pictures. With the Pro-107, when you have it plugged in, you will not be able to view the contents. Your fine, everything is programmed via the radio or software.

(insert a loud scream here) I tryed to do it using the card reader, but it back in scanner. scanner said nothing to read. ok......connected with us? cord, was sorta ok, but stuck on a object. I moved the squelch down,up...........nada.nothing. I turned off the scanner and turned it back on, now I have a blank screen.

suggestions? I could go to radio shack, but I really dont want to do that, if I get the same bs, I will have to walk out quietly. In the north, I would have a thing or two to say.

tryed scanner again, still blank window and now i cant even get the weather..............

I sent you a PM with my contact #. I've helped a few users in the area setting up there scanners. If you need help, give me a call. Be glad to assist. It's Friday and I'm just listening to my radios. If you have the time lets see if we can get you up and running.

At this point I think it's safe to say we're all pulling for you, lin. Good luck guys' I'd like nothing more than to hear you're happily listening to Washington and your surrounding counties for Christmas (I'm sure it won't take that long).

Until you have time, may I suggest reading pages 20-23 in the manual for basic programming. Remember you want County and City for your area right now. Also if your still having issues make sure your SD card is installed in the radio securely. You should hear a click when inserted correctly. Also make sure your using fresh batteries. Don’t stick the SD card directly on your computer, it isn’t necessary. When you first got the radio it should already have a database installed. Trying to mess around with the SD card at this point will just cause you problems. Once you have installed the software on your computer, then you can get the latest updates but your area hasn’t changed in awhile so you will be fine with what’s on the radio.

Remember, scanners these days will take a little bit of time and patients to get familiar with. We’ve all been there but the reward later is worth the headaches.

Lin. Dan has helped me as well. I am still learning about my Pro 197 I bought on the 26th of Nov. Dan can get you up and running. It takes time and a LOT of patience.

Didn't see your post, been busy most of the weekend. Did you reinsert the SIM and check to make sure you have fresh batteries installed? Also when you turn it on does it say "no file system" or is it just blank?

Also did you format the SD card when you had it in your computer? And have you loaded the software that came with the radio onto your computer?
