Up until today I could monitor the Wayne police department. Today, my Uniden is not receiving any transmissions for Wayne police dispatch and my Whistler TRX-1 shows that Wayne Police dispatch is encrypted. Could this be that they are having difficulties of does this mean Wayne will be encrypted from this time forward?

I monitored Wayne yesterday and it was clear. Monitoring now to see what I notice.

Why would an agency go through the trouble and expense of enabling encryption, only for it to be temporary? Doesn't seem logical.

The police talkgroups were encrypted as of Monday, and the database reflects those changes.

i'm sure they aren't planning on making this change only to be temporary, however there are some cases where it does get reverted. There is talk about it on the radioreference forums. one of them included below.

Several confirmations on this specific post:

I'm aware of that thread. The examples of agencies that have reversed their decision to encrypt is few and far between; the epitome of the rare exceptions to the rule.

I didn't even notice on my Unication as I have it set to skip encrypted talkgroups. Oh well, talkgroup delete it is.

These fully E towns show no transparency to the public that pays their salaries, dispatch should be in the clear, Detectives and sensitive channels should be E, full E just encourages corruption, and makes it easier to hide things from the public and Press.

Full E does not encourage corruption. Dispatch channels are still recorded. The public still has access through certain public laws to those recordings. Just because a channel is now encrypted does not mean the mindset goes to "I can say and do whatever I want."

Can you read emails between Officers of a PD on a daily basis ? No, certain communications are locked down for public view. However, I can tell you certain States have very broad public records access laws, including email communications, that certain Detectives that I email have that specifically spelled out in their signature line.

The corrupt will be corrupt regardless.
