I have 1VHF & 1 800MHz antenna plus the factory AM/FM radio antenna on my 02 Taurus, plus a mini-light bar in my back window and the combination of all of the above seems to make people think it is an unmarked police vehicle apparently. I usually have no problem with people getting in my way in the passing lane on the interstate. Now on a single lane it is just annoying because everybody slows down and holds me up. As soon as I get the money, I am going to ditch the light bar for more discreet LED's.

Kozo still around but he aint dancing to the "thong song". You would be lucky to find the original video in its entirity...

I usually just use mine at home to monitor my local PD. Now that I bought the BC246T this past Saturday, I'm sure that will be coming with me on my daily outings since it's nice and small and can fit nicely into a pocket.

I generally take my amateur handheld everywhere and I have it programmed to scan many non-amateur frequencies. It is always turned down enough that someone standing or sitting next to me has a hard time hearing it. I rarely have a handheld scanner on my belt when going into public areas. I guess I would rather be seen as a ham geek than a scanner geek, even though I don't really care what people think of me.
When I was working for the Forest Service the handheld provided to me went everywhere, even off duty. When in uniform and not in uniform, if I went into a store, a restaurant, or other public venue away from National Forest land, it was turned down as low as possible. Even as a long time user of public safety radio, a ham, and a scanner nut, I'm embarassed by people with handhelds who have it turned up loud enough to be heard by people 10 feet, a couple of display isles, and even 100 feet away. It just seems like the person is trying to be noticed because of the radio and that is really presumptious, at least in my opinion.

By the way, the ham handheld goes everywhere because I want to be ready in case an emergency happens near me and the phone system goes down. Quite often I don't even have it turned on. I live in a resort town of 7500 people where the number of visitors can exceed 35,000 just on a routine weekend in the winter. The phone system, including cell phones, has crashed during large storms when people cannot get out of town or have difficulty doing same. I've had grand mals and man down situations happen in my vicinity in restaurants and stores and if the phones crash about that time I want to be able to help.

i take my scanner everywhere i go one time my wife and i were out walking the dogs ,had a lapel speaker mike on listening a kid came up to me and asked if i was a cop . i said i can't tell you it's classified.
