"No difference"? The elements on this antenna are inches long. The elements on an outdoor antenna are feet long.

That would of course depend on WHAT antenna's your comparing. I have an "outdoor antenna" that is 6" long on my roof. I was simply correcting a statement made that said "An outdoor antenna will outperform an indoor antenna". That statement is not true. Are there larger outdoor antenna's that may ore may not perform better? Sure. But that not what was said. ;)

By the way, there are also many INDOOR antenna's that out perform many outdoor antenna's.

The LENGTH of the antenna is determined by the frequency, etc. Either indoors or outdoors an 800 MHz is going to be
very short as opposed to an extremely long CB (26 MHz) antenna.

Of course. ...But my old outdoor 700/800 MHz antenna was 5 feet long. My 10/11 meter antenna was 18 feet long. And my Diamond Discone’s elements were many times longer than this indoor discone. This antenna’s performance is not in the same league as any of them on any band.

That says your Diamond Discone antenna is a longer, and better performing antenna than this smaller discone antenna. BUT, it does NOT say "an outdoor antenna is better than an indoor antenna". See the difference?

OK. Please tell me/us an indoor antenna that is better than an outdoor antenna. I’d like to buy it right now.

Easy. Any of the Diamond handheld rubber ducky scanner antenna's, they are mostly "indoor antenna's, and they are all better than most other similarly sized, outdoor antenna's. Why is this confusing to you?? There is NO DIFFERENCE between and "indoor" and "outdoor" antenna except weather it is weather proof or not.

I think your confusing the fact that many "outdoor" antenna's are larger, and therefore "better". Sure, but again that does not say an outdoor antenna is better than an indoor antenna. Two antennas, both 6" long, with same base, one made out of stainless steel for outdoor use, and the other made out of steel and nickel coated for indoor use, will perform exactly the same. So is the outdoor antenna magically better somehow? No.

I just called and there is limited availability. I was told they need to manually reset this in their online store for the quantity remaining before the Out of Stock notice can be removed. I checked 10 minutes after my call and it is now available but I suspect it may run out quickly if they had limited inventory.

Who has the brainless idea to tell anyone their indoor antenna (as advertised in this post we are on) works better than an outdoor antenna that matches the frequency being scanned or transceived on? Such stupidity!

:) And, many who prefer this one over that one because of brand association or belief that generic charts and wave patterns will apply in their locations (not to mention those who believe in the placebo effect or have to justify their antenna purchase price). It is extremely hard to pinpoint a specific antenna (reception) for multiple bands. You MUST pick the center of each range of freqs you wish to primarily monitor IF you want best reception for your particular location (1/8, 1/4, 1/2 wave etc.). The environmental variables are the biggest hinderance in finding an antenna that is fixed (be it indoor or outdoor). It is at best a WAG (wild a$$ guess) in finding something that works here vs there. I know a few who use multiple antennas using a combiner (but don't take into consideration the coupled losses of all those connections). So, it is a lot of fun reading all these posts about which receiving antenna is better or worse over that one (or groups of antennas). Good luck (because it actually is good luck in finding one that works best), you may find you spent a lot of $ and winding up exactly where you started from, confused... :)

That makes zero difference. The only thing the antenna cares about is the frequency. Need to know what frequencies before we can recommend and antenna.

Appreciate that information! Will check

Update: Successfully ordered.

Well so much for all that. After receiving a successful order summary via email and awaiting 5 more days, just received the following within an email from Whistler:

Unfortunately, we sold out of this product last week before our website caught up with the correct inventory we have in the warehouse. We have placed an order for more and those are due in mid to late April. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and would be more than happy to refund the order if you are not able to wait that long for the item to make it to you.

Wondering if it's even worth it at this point? Losing faith in Whistler.

It's affecting production worldwide; temporarily closing a factory doesn't just affect the product the factory makes, it affects everything that uses that product in other products. So if a Chinese wire factory shuts down, that backlogs every other factory that uses its products, unless an alternate supplier can be found that isn't shut down as well. It's affecting the production and availibility of the Uniden SDS100 and many other products, and the longer the pandemic goes on, the more widespread the supply disruption will become. So yeah, do your research, and in the meantime dial the snark back just a tad.
