Australian Market.

Add a wider band plan than the current models (similar to the current Uniden models) and include the 70Mhz band as still used here in Australia, the option to change the Modulation and Step Size of the search ranges and a lot more Australian buyers may consider the new models... the software also needs work... a lot.

Wendy,
Are we going to be able to select what mode and step size we want for custom searches?
User selectable band defaults vs the pre-assigned tables from Whistler?

Thank You.

I highly doubt it.. it has been asked for so many times and ignored. shame really.

No GPS would be a deal killer for me.

Could a workaround be made? Like if it were all external, and not part of the scanner itself?

One could only hope.

A couple possibilities to implement GPS.

1.Third party phone app

2. Jon Wienke already has an external GPS module that could be Bluetooth enabled.

Although I know that talented hardware types have mentioned in the past that a bluetooth radio in a scanner may actually be a nightmare due to potential interference. So I guess we will see.

I think that was mentioned by someone who doesn't realy have a clue, Kenwood and Motorola already have built in bluetooth audio, programming and control with no issues.

As does Unication (as far as no interference issues.)

That's a problem with the Unication pagers' implementation of Bluetooth...there seems to be a lot of problems in finding compatible Bluetooth audio accessories or making it pair, or making it work without "beeps" on each transmission (as if it's a new phone call).

The issue with the G4/G5 Bluetooth is that it will only work with devices up to v2.1. There are several threads on the Unication forum that list what works (and without the beeps.) I use a Docooler Model B6 at home to pair the G4 with an external speaker and it pairs flawlessly. My G4 will not pair with the Bluetooth in either of my autos (2014 Toyota and 2017 Honda.) It would be nice to see Unication update their Bluetooth capability as it is a nice feature.

I don't think that would help. The patents Uniden has for location based scanning likely make this impossible for Whistler to implement.
https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Location_Based_Scanning

There are some quite easy ways around this if Whistler add some good remote control options and flexibility, ideally via built in bluetooth but if not its easy to hang a BT dongle on the USB port anyway.

First option is to send all the tuning data to the radio from a phone app, store the database in a phone, use the phone GPS, use a haversine lookup on the database to determine channels in range to send to the radio, this requires a complex app though. Whistler just provide the command and users use it how they see fit.

An easier option in terms of phone app is to have the phone app send a remote command to the radio to enable or disable blocks of channels. The user could then program blocks by geographical area (or anything they like), the phone app would then send a simple command to enable / disable blocks based on the phones gps location. You can already sort of do this using remote keypad commands to enable/disable scanlists and vscanners but its cumbersome and slow.

All Whistler need to do is make the radio flexible, it would need a large number of user selectable blocks that could be quickly switched with a remote command, ideally with some custom data fields. If a user decides to enable or disable blocks by their location Whistler hasn't infringed the patent, they merely provided a remote control command to enable or disable a set of channels and the user decided how they would select them.

Well let's see...

This is from the very first post in this thread...

The TRX-100 and TRX-200 will begin shipping in Q4 2018.

So I'm taking a wild guess of Q4 2018...but I could be wrong.

LOL!

Thank goodness someone around here has a sense of humor!

When you know how, programming using EZ-Scan or Senitinel is real easy and takes little time to do.

BUT, I'm sure you really meant the time it takes to "upload" programming to a TRX-1 or TRX-2, you can boil the kettle, make a coffee and drink most of it before it is finished.

Let's hope Whistler addresses the slooooooooow uploading of programming with the new models.

Their approach to programming the radio needs a fresh start. It is not intuitive from a UI perspective. In the realm of software development cycle, there are whole teams in the programming phase who review code based on this [intuitive from a UI perspective] as the code matures to a release version. If there is only one programmer, well, that answers the current dilemma...

EZScan is simple and easy, been using it since 2014. Got all my programming exactly the way I want it, always have several archives saved. When I use my USB 3.0 sd card reader in computer, updating the sd from prepare sd card for use to using in scanner takes 45 seconds, I never connect the scanner to USB cable ever, especially if I have any recordings, only if there is a scanner updates. It just takes time to get used to it.

I've already stated I'd buy the next Whistler (erroneously thinking they'd call it the TRX-3/4, but whatever) and I will.

I'm more curious why the announcement thread on the TRX-100 in the Announcements forum was locked and yet, as usual, the Uniden SDS100 thread continues unabated over there...

Because there were multiple threads on the exact same subject for Whistler, and the extra duplicates were closed. The closed thread has a link to the thread that was left open.

Likely the sole reason.

Anyhow, I'm just going to hold off on a new radio until release date and grab a TRX-100 and the DV-10. That should round out radio purchases for a few months.

Will the new Whistler scanners properly trunktrack NXDN / DMR / Tier III using the control / rest channel instead of sifting through all the voice calls and conventionally searching for the TG you're trying to monitor?

And, will they have all the SD card corruption problems still?

My plan was to wait about 6 months after the new Uniden comes out and see what the reviews / bugs are like. Then this announcement came out and now am thinking of waiting another 6 months after the Whistlers are out and then making a decision about this time next year (Summer, 2019). But if the Whistlers still don't trunktrack right, then it's game over and I'll prolly just say screw it and get the Uniden this Thanksgiving or so, unless they're still buggy by then.

One challenge is that some bugs don't become apparent for a long time, like dimming backlights, keypads wearing out, or internal component failures (capacitors, clock battery). So you really have to wait a long time before buying.

I agree totally.
