Thanks to all those who came before me and dealt with the FW update issues, I was successful in updating my dongle and radio on first try. Streaming works great except for the slight delay (1 second for me)

Unfortunately, of the 20 or so apps I tried, none support the format the scanner is sending. Perhaps we will get an opportunity to get a pure MP3 stream or better yet and HTML5 stream.

Does anyone know how to dump the rtsp data info from the radio? I tried some of my tools but could not get a connection. I will be trying Wireshark this weekend when I get time to play some more.

Re-broadcasting via VLC works but sounds horrible (to me) so looking for an alternative.

I have a Synology Disk Station which I use for VPN so I can get to my network from outside without doing port forwarding. Works great.

Regarding the delay between audio on the scanner and audio on VLC, I reduced the cache (Media, Open Network Stream, check Show More Options, set cache to 100 ms) and this also reduced the audio delay. Just a note that reducing the cache to 0 causes choppy audio. Still playing with this, but I found it interesting. Of course, I just keep the scanner audio turned down and this isn't even an issue. : )

Everyone complaining about delay shouldn't there will always be a little delay. Almost everything wireless has a delay.. Call someone's cell phone in the same room. Pull a radio stream on the Internet with wireless it's not instant

I think the complaints or observations come from the audio not matching the display. In other words Fire Dept A is speaking but the audio is delayed a bit and by that time Police Dept A is displaying. BTW for what its worth the designer of ProScan has this all figured out already. I use ProScan and there is no delay, audio and display are in perfect sync. Keep in mind that Uniden sent this out as an example only ( I hope at least), the expectation is that the actual App will not have these issues.

It would be nice to have another update about the app progress now that the other anomalies have been fixed!

Can you listen away from your home WI-FI over the internet or is it just limited to your home WI-FI?

Yes, over the internet. You have to purchase the program.....$70? I think, but well worth it. I have my scanner on at my desk top work station with full control of the scanner.

$70? Yikes! That's more than the Free version of uniden app coming out... and about $68.99 more than it should be.

Can you share the app name or is it a secret?

Again, more secrecy LOL. Please, for those who make claims of apps just working, do list the names of such apps. I have yet to find one that works. I have tried about 20 from the app store.

Because some people like me who can't afford to go out and buy a new laptop with windows 8 in it!

And those would appreciate if Uniden would do the right thing and continue to support it!

Believe it or not Windows XP still gets updates from Microsoft. so the idea that they don't support it anymore is bogus! [emoji35]

Some of us are NOT independent millionaire Republicans who can just afford to go out and buy what they want some of us have to actually work for it!

Hopefully this doesn't upset the board God's here but you know what it's absolutely true. [emoji35]

Windows 7 Costs $86.77 For 64bit Home

Uniden 536HP Costs $499.99

U must be a millionaire Republican after all to afford an expensive scanner like that.

Actually, no I'm not. It was christmas money from my parents. My dad worked 31 years for general motors is a member of local 22 and is a retiree.

The reason I live with them is because I haven't worked in 10 years. because I got myself into a whole lot of debt as a young man, I was never able to afford to get out of my parents house.

I finally filed for bankruptcy in 2004 and I've never been able to find work since. This was due to a career change that backfired in my face and I don't have anywhere else to go.

Also, I'm in only child and my parents need help; So, I live with them. So, not here, I'm not a wealthy republican.

I'm just working class stiff, who happens to be a bit ofa situation due to some on unforseen circumstances in my life. [emoji57]

How do you set up VPN to work with VLC on Iphone?

VLC has no VPN support. You must set up VPN on the iPhone separately. It supports all the popular VPN protocols. Most SoHo routers have VPN services these days and some other network devices (such as my Synology Disk Station) also have VPN services you can leverage.

Once your iPhone is connected to the VPN endpoint inside your home network, it is as if it were inside your house.
