sawyer county and WISCOM

Just to Clarify Sawyer's WISCOM status. WISCOM has been and is only being used for testing, Past and Present, Never switched, Plan on switching in near future. All current channels will be retained as back up and paging as there are not pagers available to work on Digital Trunked systems. Currently working to patch WISCOM to analog before switching over. WISCOM is working very well, it is just the marrying of the two system's delaying the switch.

Okay, Hmmm, getting the two systems (the analog one and WISCOM) to play nice is going to be fun for a while, this should be fun to watch . Just thought of something on this, it was memtioned about users standing near each other and being unable to talk to one another (?), i wonder if this is `cause of the delay that`s inherent in the way digital is sent out over the system, short version of it is when i transmit on (just for example) the local DSTAR system here, there`s a slight delay while the system decodes and rencodes the data (decodes the incomming, and rencodes the outgoing data). What may be happening there was that the radios were too close to each other, and one radio was ether being "desensed", meaning the signal was literly "sucked out" of the radio, or the delay was causing some issue and the recieving unit couldn`t hear the incomming transmission, generally this isn`t a biggie, but it can be intresting sometimes . I`m hoping they can work this out, as once they do this will be better for all the users. N9NRA

I'm getting traffic on TG 9011 on the Milwaukee VHF Tower on TG 9011 "Ghost Rider" "Evil Doer" "Lima Charlie" some encryption. My records show this should be a federal/military talkgroup. Also some chit chat on TG88, also on Milwaukee VHF site.

Around this area, not at all. I`ve been listening off and on and haven`t heard a peep, `cept for the ocassional radio techs doing more testing and the odd traffic when counties check in to some kinda cerimonial net once in a while. Other than that stuff, i`ve not heard a thing. Really hope to hear more stuff on it, that way i could give my scanner a workout on digital trunking . N9NRA

Parkland control channel is now on 152.1725. Far better decode. Hopefully I will have better luck with getting the rest of the frequencies now.

Yes, it would be. Little too much for what they are trying to do, though. It'll be on the government center, essentially the same as the current PD system.

WISCOM is a P25 VHF trunking system. Most digital scanners will be able to do that...however, if Dane uses Encryption on there no scanner will decode it.

WISCOM is a VHF trunked EF Johnson (backbone) P25 system. DANECOM will be a VHF trunked Harris (backbone) 8 site/8 channel P25 system. Like sfd119 said, as long as the communications are not encrypted, any P25 Phase 1 digital scanner will be able to monitor both systems.

I would use a current model scanner for monitoring WISCOM and the Dane Co system as it will be helpful to get a programming cable in order to program the system(s) so you can go anywhere to Rx the system as a whole.

Some scanners like the RadioShack PRO-96 do NOT do a good job monitoring the system. In addition I would also make sure that it can also do scanning of 700Mhz system(s) as well as I am sure that will start to creep up in some 800 Mhz system(s) soon.

Ditto NP9NRA's post above from Jefferson Co. When the techies are testing the system, I can get transmissions loud and clear on my PSR600. Haven't even heard those in quite awhile. I've got the towers programmed in from DeForest and Columbus.

Lots of testing on WISCOM this evening. From the sound of the conversations, it seems there's lots of work that needs to be done yet. Communications were very crisp and clear.

That list was e-mailed out from WISCOM to all the dealers supporting it. As for others, I doubt it. There were a few different agencies on the list that didn't have talkgoups assigned yet so I didn't add those. If I get any other e-mails, I'll put those up too.
