I'm back in Milwaukee again for the school year (attending UWM), and tonight there is a welcome back type event for UWM students called "Pantherfest" going on at Marcus Ampitheater. UWM PD is there using TG 5001 on the Milwaukee 800 system for the event.

Radio IDs include:
8810832 dispatch or command post
8810834
8810835
8810838
8810843
8810850
8810852

Main operations still on 155.190 PL 82.5

Did you get a chance to see what kind of radios the police officers were using? I hear that UWM PD uses Motorola and others have told me that they use Kenwoods.

I didn't actually attend the event, so I didn't get a look at the radios. I never did get a good look at the VHF radios UWMPD uses. The other departments at UWM (the ones that use the UWM TRS) use Kenwoods, I believe tk-480's or something very close.

I didn't go over the entire 31 pages of this thread however I seem to remember someone within this thread talking about the WSP and DNR migrating to WISCOM sometime during 2012.

Since with are 3/4th into the year, does anyone know if this date is still a possibility or has it been revised?

I doubt it. I know some DNR rigs are getting WISCOM radios now, but just the general channels (RTACs, STACs) appear in them at this point.

State Patrol comm centers have WISCOM radios in most of their centers, unsure about squads.

My guess is they are no where near being ready yet...not to mention some disgruntled Fire Rangers with the changes....

I see this is posted elsewhere on a separate thread. Anyway, last night I caught during the end of the Iowa County fire pager testing marathon that they said that "all law will be on WISCOM system as of October 1st".

The Only thing I have heard lately is occasional traffic- mostly testing on STAC1 and Sawyer County SO Simulcast off of the Shell Lake and Lampson Towers.. Nothing else on the other towers that I monitor on WISCOM

The system as a whole has been spitting out a constant stream of 9600 bps data for about 2 years through it's control channels. Not to mention the microwave backbone.:roll:

Realistically, as reported there are two State Patrol Dispatch patches. There is sporadic testing all over the north end of the State, Sawyer is in the process of migrating with some LE units natively on the system in addition to the bidirectional patch.

I'm sure the scan talkgroups are still grinding away, just on the local sites, however. There are a few other counties that I know of, which is so low on the food chain that it's ridiculous, that are working on migrating. There has been no incident I'm aware of that would put the system to good use under it's "interoperability" purpose for existing so it's still relatively unproven and unknown.

It's a very new system and has not matured to the level of ARMER and MPSCS. And as part of that I don't believe a majority of the public safety world really understands how powerful and useful it can be. It's too far removed from their normal 1 maybe 2 channel county dispatch.

Last two times I drove across the state I heard nothing but techs - and even that was infrequent and brief.

Granted, I didn't drive up to the far northwestern part of the state...

Remember this is a multicast system so you need to be in the right place at the right time to hear ;-)

With the WISCOM system, does it pay to have every site programmed in? I'm in Manitowoc County. Should I just take the sites that are east of Hwy 41 for example, or enter all of them?

Hey box23 . Another reason i could add is that compaired to the usual one or two channel dispatch system WISCOM is rather complicated for the end-user (think more channels to have on the radios and the fact that digital takes a bit of gettin` used to). It`s kinda like when i went from the Analog ham stuff to digital, new ways of doing thingies like doing links and such, so that might be one reason. Another one might be cost, they gotta get all new radios and get `em programmed...that costs lots of MONEY, something that some small counties don`t got in this economy. N9NRA P.S. Iowa County Sheriff + Muni PD's are entirely on WISCOM now. When I was out there this week, only traffic on talkgroup 25001 was heard with nothing being heard on 155.5950.

Also, Juneau County Sheriff (156.2100) was patched onto talkgroup 29001. Looks like WISCOM is starting to gain full-time users now.

Most of the State Patrol Supervisors have WISCOM in the squads, and little by little the other squads are getting it. Here in Dodge county all of our Supervisors, the Emergency Management trucks, and the Incident Command Trailer. have the radios in them now.

This is true, our officers find it silly at this point and would rather use the current conventional TAC channels.

That`s what i was thinking, why make everyone go to WISCOM when the conventional channels are still usuable. In other words, if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it . N9NRA

Have had some activity on talkgroup 17010 off the Hillsdale Tower... Seems to be new... Any Ideas?
