Correct, DOC is in the process of changing all of their radios over to use WISCOM. 95% of the vehicles are getting new radios.

TG 40091

I recently started hearing TG40091 off the Langlade County Kent tower site. This appears to be the Menominee Regional Public Transit buses. Also have noticed a new type of antenna installed on their buses.

As of 7 AM this morning the State Patrol Southwest Region has switched over to WISCOM for primary operations. All other State Patrol regions will remain on their conventional channels.

Anybody listen to WISCOM on a Uniden portable scanner (396, 436)? How is your reception? What antenna are you using?

Since WISCOM is used more and more (or at least rebroadcasts) I decided to program in my portable. But I'm not having any reception within a house and somewhat limited outside with portable antenna. Of course, good reception on house or auto antenna.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum topic but looking for what others are finding. Thank you,

I don't on a portable scanner but I can tell you this: It's all about the tower.

Near me, the Lampson tower carries quite a long ways (other channels are on it) but the Shell Lake tower doesn't go as far as Lampson does. It depends on what site is on what tower and how far it's meant to reach.

The system is built out to 95% mobile coverage only so in-building coverage with a portable will be hit or miss depending on how close you are to a tower. If you happen to be in one of counties where there are some local enhancement sites reception on your portable should be a lot better.

It will depend greatly on teh nearest tower and your location/topography. Here is a coverage map for Portable coverage. This will be decreased if the radio/antenna is inside though.

That's portable talkback coverage - portable reception should be much much better.

I live in the City of Eau Claire. I thought I would at least be able to get the Chippewa Falls tower in the house but not having much luck at that. I seem to get a "bar or two" off of Osseo and Chippewa when I'm outside.

That is why I wanted to see what others were getting and see if a different antenna would help reception at all. Not sure when WSP EC Post is going to migrate but would like to have better reception then I'm getting. But it is what it is by the sounds of it.

I have a cabin north of Ladysmith but haven't tried it up there to see what I can get. Again, with house or car antenna I'm able to get multiple towers. Will try with portable up there to see how it works.

Thanks for your replies!!

I have the ChipFalls site in my truck. When I go to Eau Claire I receive it very clear and I know it goes out a long ways. You shouldn't have a problem in the city with it. Is it the stock Uniden antenna? Try switching it out for a VHF antenna...that would help you out.

N of Ladysmith? Sawyer County is full on WISCOM. Rusk County, not so much. You'll hear quite a bit of WISCOM traffic in that area.

As far as I'm aware it's pretty much open to any type of government agency.

This is true, however the reception on a portable scanner is not going to be as good as a portable radio. Especially with interference and being inside a building.

I am hearing this TG40091 in Oshkosh off the Chilton tower today.

Hearing TG 40090 on the Greenfield VHF site this afternoon, not able to identify the source; something from Menominee Co.

I caught 4617 on Baraboo site and 4625 on Blue Mounds sites several times today. I'm not sure who it was but I'm guessing with the 46 prefix that it would be Ozaukee CO related. I heard stuff like "is this supposed to be channel 3" type of chatter.

County talkgroups should be 5 digits (unless you meant 46017 and 46025). A four digit 46 should be a state agency I believe.

It was 4 digits on both of the 4600 series talkgroups. I'm just going by some paperwork that I had regarding WISCOM that stated the first 2 digits were the agency indicator. That's why I was guessing Ozaukee
