Heard some more bad accidents in the last few days on the major highways in NJ. Just curious as to what people who travel and respond in NJ think is the worst highway in the state (ie I-295, 287/440, 42, etc). I mean this in reference to accidents, incidents and traffic. I've attached a pole so you can tell me what you think.

You missed one. Route 4 - in fact before the big cloverleaf at the Rte17/4 interchange, I know it was rated as one of the most dangerous intersections in the state. This is in northern NJ, and leads to Fort Lee and NY

I would have to disagree...........for North Jersey, at least, I believe Route 22 is the worst highway! It's one of the few highways that have a center isle of stores with people constantly getting off and turning on to the highway from the FAST LANE. Route 22 is not only bad for accidents, but it's bad for traffic problems as well. On the weekends and rush hour, it's always backed up. During bad weather, the area between Newark and Hillside always gets flooded and turns to ice in the winter. It's also a major get-away highway for criminals committing armed robberies along the stretch between Springfield and Newark at night. A friend of mine actually got his tires shot at driving through Newark on Rt. 22. The second worse one in north jersey in my opinion is Route 1 & 9. Linden PD are always responding to some kind of accident on Rt. 1 & 9 whenever I have the scanner on.

Don't blame the roads......

It's not the roads, it's all those horrible Jersey drivers!
PA should close the bridges.............j/k neighbors.

Way, way back, when - NJ Route 4 at the intersection of Rte 17 was a frequent traffic accident disaster. Then they built all those damned malls and things got even worse. For North Jersey, that's my vote.

For Central New Jersey, Route 22 gets my nod for first, second, and third place. Even the Lumber Giant is now covering his eyes. Further south, the Route 33 Circle (at rush hours) is catching up fast from dishonorable mention.

Route 22 has GOT to be the worst all the way from Newark to Reading PA, I haven't been west of there but I'm sure it doesn't improve any.
