I knew typing in that message would make the system make a liar out of me...

A little after I sent it, I heard "COMM 01" (obviously a communications tech) talking on TG#00903 to "Fred," whose voice I think I recognized as Fred Smart's, the Director of the Office of Emergency Services for Harrison County. COMM 01 said the Charleston tower was gangbusters into Flat Top, down in Mercer County (Fred was 10 miles north of Charleston).

Some other talk groups I have
Office of emergency services 01127 "private"
Office of emergency services 01151 Some one added these two OES talk groups to the data base page as "TECH" channels, I heard tech people calling on them, but they were calling out to the OES people, so they may be tech and or OES?
Med channel "E" 09829 confirmed
City code inforcement 01177
Private fire, by different departments 01181, 01189
The voice channel frequency of 452.8750 which is the only voice channel "so far" thats using the table "3" is very active, and I am keeping watch and logging to see what other frequencys that will be added in the future. I see someone is starting to get stuff out of Charleston, Interesting.

Berkeley Co -what am I doing wrong

I have a uniden 296, when I programed it I only put in the N Mountain channels. It looks like it is working, but not picking anything up? (signal strenght is strong) Do I need to put in all the frequencies for the whole system(all counties)? Looking for help!

The 296/796 will only work with one site per bank...thus N Mountain is correct by itself. However, you will likely need to program the Uniden tables as follows:
Table 1:
Base: 452.0000
Space: 12.5
Offset: 380
Table 2:
Base: 460.0000
Space: 12.5
Offset: 570

If your are manually programming, use the following steps.
Motorola Type II Systems
Program the frequencies as follows: assuming bank 1
1. press MENU
2. press 2
3. press 2
4. press VFO or E
5. press 1
6. press 1
*7. press 4
8. press 2
9. press VFO or E
10. press 1
11. using numbered and decimal keys enter frequency
12. press VFO or E
13. press MENU three times
14. rotate VFO to next channel (C 002 L/O should appear at top)
15. repeat steps 9 through 14 until all are entered (the new top should be C 003...)
16. press scan after last E
*After pressing 4 in step 7 above, skip steps 8 through 10 and use steps
(a through l) below to enter tables data for UHF.
a. press VFO or E
b. enter base frequency
c. press VFO or E
d. enter space setting
e. press VFO or E
f. enter offset channel
g. press VFO or E
h. repeat steps (a through g) for additional settings for UHF or VHF
i. press MENU three times
j. press 2
k. press VFO or E
l. return to step 11 above for entering frequencies.

Ok for a new talk group, I have 01119 as Martinsburg City PD (private) Only heard it a couple times last weekend, so will wait to post it in the data base a little later. I did post MED "E" and thats confirmed as talk group 09829 (DEC) 2665 (hex).

I was in Charleston today and heard some guys talking on TG 1. They were talking about finding a parking place at the capitol. I also heard them say a microwave went down ( not sure what that means). Anyway, this was my first time picking anything up on this system and I was very impressed with the audio.

Berkeley County system...TG 1193 seems to be used for EMS panic/emergency button on the radios. I heard the dispatcher on it today calling rescue units for someone that triggered the panic button. I'm not sure if this is the same for the Sheriff's Dept or Martinsburg PD as well.

I'am thinking that also Mike, You may want to be looking at 01117 as the panic talk group for the city PD. Still in the works on that one.

Ok, so figure this one out!
I have programed my BC 296D & my BC796D the exact same way for the Berkeley Co system, and the 796 is working like a champ and the 296 won't pick up anything???? I am stumped and can't figure out why the handheld won't work.

Any suggestions!

Here, there and everywhere in WV

Don't discount the 42..Low Band system they use so quickly, also the VHF high and UHF.
Unfortunatley for the avid scanner listener P-25 is just a means to the end for just about everybody in scannerland.

Because if they decide to run full encryption on all channels, you will quickly be wishing for the old system back. I'm just being realistic. By the way WVSP does a lot of unit to unit
conversations on vhf high band in the 156. range

point taken with the encryption. as far as the other, I've gotten them all in my scanner.
