OK being I have less time to figure, If you wish to confirm my thinking,
Na, you nailed it with Pro96Com. I never saw the new table listing discussed in this forum prior to your previous, thus wondered when the change evolve. My scanners will be ready whenever.

General Question

This is probably a very stupid question, but at the risk of being laughed at, I'm going to ask it anyway.

What's the purpose of the new statewide interoperability radio system?

Is the plan to link the state together for disaster communications, or to eventually convert all the county emergency services to this system (meaing they will retire thier existing systems and frequencies)?

As I understand it will cordinate all agencies connected. On a wreck last week, a Berkeley County Sherriff's deputy went to the fire dispatch talkgroup and gave a size up so the units responding had knowledge of what to expect. Before it had to relayed via the dispatcher. Before, if the dispacher was busy, the transmission was delayed or lost.

Also, sometimes the miscomunications at incident scenes can be be bad. Or in the case of Sago Mine, horrendus.

Here in Virginia, STARS is being implemented. It will connnect ALL state agencies onto 1 TRS. The heaviest user will be the state police. However in the VA system, local agencies were not scheduled to be a part of it.

Not being too familiar with southern WV counties, does anyone have any info on WVIOP system in Greenbriar County. I don't recall seing anything posted yet. I was wondering if there is any timetable available for coverage there, or what sites are online that would be currently covering it.

JESSERABBIT When I started the WV Roll call I hoped and still expect alot of people will put there location so we can figure out talk group locations and the towers they will be used from. I expect as the systems grows there will be a flurry of forum activitys to go with it.
New/Old pro 96 scanner screen settings, I have found or forgotton. When monitoring a truck system you can change the 3rd line from/to (Tower text tag) to (T IDbk 01234) with a talk group "active" hit function then trunk buttons.

I have my Uniden 396T connected to my PC running ARC396Pro 24/7. it saves all audio into WAV files and logs everything into an Excel file. so, if anyone hears something and isn't sure what they heard, note the time and what ID you think it was. I can go back and listen to it. this has been very useful with the implementation of the new system.

I have more IDs logged, but I'm not sure of what they were so i didn't post them. I didn't want to post misinformation and have people messed up listening to me.

Ok, thanks. I assumed that I may have missed something. Will be patient and keep my ear to the rail.

mike_s104,
Are you able to get the trunk id of the digital system? If so, what setting are you using. I know you have to have a digital scanner for the audio but was wondering on the id's.

the scanner I use is an Uniden BCD396T. I have the system programmed into it using ARC396Pro software ( www.butelsoftware.com ). Within the software, you can connect to the RadioReference database and get all the trunk (and withthe beta version conventional) systems for anywhere. I then tell it to create the system within the software. after that, you tell the software to upload it to the scanner. I used the system that was in the database months ago before they did a lot of testing here. during the testing, I set the scanner in search mode so it would search for all IDs in use. while in scan mode, it only looks at the IDs you've specified. the IDs that I see as new, I see in the log file the software creates. I can tell it's new or at least not in my scanner since it will not have anything in the name field. if I see a new one, I go back to the recorded audio and see if I can figure it out what service it is. if it's consistant, I will add it to my system and reload the system to the scanner.

if you have a Uniden 396T and the ARC396Pro software, I can give you the file I used for the system. if you need help with a Radio Shack scanner, Bruce Warming is the man you'd want to talk to.

Expecting my 996 next week. Trying to program this system with the UASD before I have the radio. If the 996 is like the 396, will I need to program the Custom Uniden Frequency Tables, or is the IOP system configured such that the 996 will not need this?

Looking in the UASD setup, it looks like each site has its own "Band Plan," but the band plan table has only Base and Spacing, no offset. Any thoughts? Scanning the thread, it looks like the 396 was fine w/o any custom settings. Thanks.

I would suggest the Butel Software software for it once it's released. www.butelsoftware.com

I may be able to get you started by exporting my systems from my 396T with the Uniden software and send them to you. Let us know how the 996 works out. I would like to get one later on.

I will certainly be checking out Gommert's product once it's ready, but he's said that won't be for at least a month. Until then, hand-programming 6,000 channels might be a little more than I can handle ;^) Did you have to put custom tables into your 396, or did the sites broadcast enough that the radio didn't need the help? Thanks. I'll share my experiences here when I get the radio. Grove said they would have one for me no later than tomorrow (Thursday, 6/1); crossing my fingers...

with the version 1.042, you can connect to the RR database and pull all the data to program any system. it takes about 1 min to progam a system into the software and a few more to send it to the scanner. for the new WV system, I didn't use the one that's in the RR database because I don't like how it's broken up into different services. but I did use it as a guide and changed it as I needed. with the beta 1.5 version, you can even to analog systems. the beta semms to run OK 90% of the time but the full version is very stable.

Had the 996 parked on tower 109 (Charleston) for the last two days and haven't heard a peep; hopefully I've got the beast set up correctly (it's full, anyway!). I guess things haven't heated up down here quite like they have in the eastern panhandle. I'll at least get the tower # for Huntington this week.
