Just wanted to let everyone know that Pro96Com is showing the McWhorter site as

SiteID:112(T010C) Primary Control Channel is: 453.47500 and Alternate Control Channel is: 460.21250.

You may want to update the database.

This is also consistent with my earlier (mislabeled) message re: chatter on TG#1. Glad someone confirmed.

I wonder how long it will be before they push the big, red Encrypt_Everything button...

Whaddya want to bet Kanawha County will have the 6100 series TGs??? Maybe it was the chemical spill on I-77, or maybe they just picked today to test...

When I got home from work, I found I had logged the following with multiple hits: 6110, 6111, 6120, 6121, 6122, 6170, 6171, 6172, 6173, 6180, plus 6903 and some 9000 series TGs I had never seen before. Too bad I don't have audio logging....

Looks like it may heat up real soon 'round here!

you'll probably see TGs for Charleston. I remember when they were testing before actually deploying the radios, it was kinda fun.

Berkeley Co - TG 1189

not sure what's going on, but some idiots are on fire TG 1189 talking like their "new fangled gizmos" are CBs. they call some TGs "private", I guess they think no one else can hear them. and these are the people protecting us...

WV Frequency hunt

me714 said:
I had the 396 at the office on today, logging Interop traffic only. (I know, it's about time I got back to it!).

Anyway, I was listening to the techs today (TG-1). They were working on the Kopperston/Bolt-Welch segements. Durning the conversation, one of them said, "Well, I think we may have come up with some frequencies for Welch, but I ain't for sure..."

I had to laugh! Boy, they've sure gone at this thing half cocked... Typical WV state project!!! ;-)

Looking at how things have happened up here in Morgantown, they seem to be very mindful of re-using frequencies, especially ones already in the hands of some licensee in their favor. The WVSP remote base that used to be on 460.0875 disappeared and an adjacent frequency appeared on the Interop system.

I suspect that in the absence of lotsa clear statewide channels they are poking about with each potential tower build-out to get the frequencies that they need in that locale (taking full advantage of refarming). Keep in mind that WV was relegated to UHF after they could not get sufficient VHF frequencies for a system.

Keep listening, each stage of build-out is an adventure to follow both on the air and in terms of the user agency policies in each county.

I still am amazed that there doesn't seem to be a system-wide plan for the talk groups. (Understanding there will be local variation, but there seems to be no generic breakout like X01 - X15 Fire, X16-X30 Law Enforcement, ...)

The final amazement is that on this "Interoperable" system there do not seem to be shared/operations/tactical channels for multi-agency or multi-county events.

Oh, well, an ongoing source of ammusement. Carl

It is interesting! For example, my wife was born in Arkansas, raised on the gulf coast in Louisiana, and spent her early adult life in Alabama - meaning, I have inlaws that we visit in all three states - states with statewide trunking systems.

I've followed them as they were implemented and grew (including the original type 1 in Arkansas - THAT one was a pain, given the scanner I had at the time! :) .

Anyway, notice that these states - Arkansas, with their new type 2 that's being implemented, and Louisiana, with their new 700 system. Man, they've got it all together - freqs, tower sites, IDs, all before the start. Then compare it to what we are seeing. Don't get me wrong, because, as it says at the bottom of all my posts, I'm proud to be a WV hillbilly, especially one that has spent considerable amounts of time under these great hills.

It's just sad that we can't be like everyone else. When the federal dollars are dangled, all common sense goes out the window, and it's every county/muicipality for themselves, regardless of coordination or actual need. (W8MS, remember when a certain large city near us spent their first post 911 federal dollars on radar guns for their cruisers??? Now, THAT was anti terrorist money well spent...)

Sorry about being on the soap box, because, as mike and carl said, it is kind of fun watching them muddle their way thru this home brewed circus! I just get a little frustrated, because this state has so much potential and such good people...

Sigh.....

With the system still being builtout and very much in its infancy, it is going quite well. Just because you dont see or know of multiagency/county TG's doesnt mean they arent there....Trust me. And for the plan on TG's its there as well.

NB: Do you know if the system planners intend to full-time encrypt the majority of the talkgroups? I.e., is the effort going on here to catalog the TGs, etc., a waste of time? If so, it'd be nice to know that now ;^) Thanks.

Looks like the WV State Capitol police are doing away with their 800mhz p25 radios and going to interop. 9401 seems to be the primary TG....

Berkeley County "private" FD TGs

I sent the following talkgroups to the database for inclusion. To those who don't know, these talkgroups are private only within the systems. That is, only Hedgesville FD radios will have 1183 programmed in. No other fire company or user will have the ability to listen or talk on the radio system.

However, anybody with a scanner programmed with the North Mountain tower will be able to listen.

FWIW, generally they talk about what units to bring to a scene or what a member needs from a fire station. There is little "offical" talk on these talkgroups, as Mike noted in a previous post in this thread.

"Private" Talk Groups, Berkeley County

1115 Co 90, Berkeley County Emergency Ambulance Authority
1181 Co 40, Bedington
1183 Co 30, Hedgesville
1185 Co 50, Back Creek Valley
1187 Co 20, South Berkley/ Inwood
1189 Co 60, Baker Heights

thanks for the info. I have all of these in my scanners as "Fire-EMS Private" but never really bothered to get more specific. :) I'll need to do a little updating tonight.

You guys in the panhandle are great. Good Job!

Things got a little dead this afternoon, and, in light of the "Randomly assigned talkgroups" mentioned in a few previous posts, I decided to work a little experiment with Excel... I made a matrix using the last two digits of the known TGs and their counties, and compared their assignments. For those of you who have already done this, my apologies - for the rest, you may, as I did, find it quite interesting!

TG-01 County fire /Ems dispatch (Berkeley. Harrison, Marion)
TG-03 Fire (Martinsburg, Harrison)
TG-05 EMS (Marion, Mon )(Harrison - Clarksburg Fire)
TG-07 Sheriff Dispatch (Berkeley, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Jefferson)
TG-09 County seat Police Department (Berkeley, Harrison, Marion, Mon)
TG-11 Next largest city Police (Berkeley, Harrison, Marion, Mon -WVU)
TG-15 EMS (Berkeley, Harrison)
TG-23 Sheriff related TGs (Berkeley, Harrison, Mon)
TG-33 Thru TG-49 Tac Channels (Berkeley, Harrison - some, Marion - some)
TG 51 EOC (Berkeley, Kanawha)

Sooo, it appears that there is a method to their madness!

I don't think I've seen this comparison before...pretty cool :)

if you see any encrypted TGs and anything in the 8xxx range, please let us know so we can compare more info.

Tg 9779

I was going back through recorded audio from the week and saw a hit on TG 9779. I could not make out the calling unit/person (sounded like "Beacon 1") but they were calling State EOC. I think this is most likely State Homeland Security, maybe channel 5 since it follow that format and would logically be that channel number.
