Ok, being new to this system. I'm picking up a tg 9771 on the Kopperston site ( 121 ). What do I have to do to get the display information that is givien in the database on my scanner to know what they area. I know how to manually program them in but I do not know how to get them. I did learn how to get the P25 WACN: BEE00 to display.

Thanks
Jeff

that TG is already in the RR DB...

State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Mgmt. Talkgroups
9771 262b D DHS&EM1 Operations 1

but in the future if you find one that's not in the RR DB, use the Submit feature located on the database. provide TG # and site you heard the traffic on.

what others have done is post info here, just you you did and wait to submit it to the RR DB until they are pretty sure what agency is using that TG.

Guess I need to update my scanner for the next trip Jeff. Nothing but dead CC noise my last time through on June 1. Spent the night in Beckley Hampton Inn both directions.

By your post it appears you have a 396 or 996 so can't help with getting data into scanner unless you are using ARC software. I use 96 and 2096.

I know... I used the db to see what strange CC was coming in on a random search in the middle of the night. Like I said, I was surprised to get it down here....

That reminds me... I found a place I want a shack. Parking lot of the mountain top lodge at Snowshoe. I could hear the Garfield and Elmira towers, and all of the towers in Fairmont, Morgantown, and Ckb (plus about everything else east of the Mississippi). Now if only I can get NRAO and NAS Sugar Grove to go along with my plan...

My sister has one... I need to get her keys!

BTW, Malden is tower 0116.

Now if we can just get a tower on Coal Mountain or Cross Lanes. Dunno who decided to put Garfield's first voice channel on the same freq as Rotary Park's control channel, but it makes reception in Teays Valley impossible: as soon as Garfield commands my radio to a voice conversation on 460.1375, Rotary Park's data channel clobbers it, and my radio just cycles back and forth between the two. Arg.

PS Look for Rich Mountain to come online soon.

=== Update:

It's up. Anyone copy it? It has a serious null at 170 degrees (pointing into the RQZ, to protect the GBT) -- only allowed 4W ERP!

I wonder if we want to start naming the towers in the dB the same as the IRP folks call them:

Elkins => Rich Mountain
[one of the Morgantown towers, can't remember which] => Daybrook
Beckley => Flat Top
Elmira => Floe
Martinsburg => North Mountain

and so on.

Malden is up & running; I heard some of the Kanawha Co folks testing it out today.

New sites to keep an eye out for... East River Mountain, Welch, Keeney, Coon Knob.

Mercer County will be drawing up their talkgroup plan soon.

I agree, this makes a lot a sense and would cut down on confusion when listening to them. actually, for the Martinsburg site, I have always had it programmed in as "North Mountain".

I agree, I don't even know how Beckley got its name on that one to start with. The tower is in Mercer County not Raleigh and even the towers that are on Flat Top Mt. is still consider Mercer County. If I'm not mistaking Raleigh County agency does not even use that tower for anyone in Raleight County, not even Ghent Fire Department. What traffic I had heard from the State ( I don't really listen to them ), most of their traffic is from Beckley HQ talking to a unit in Mercer Co.

Today was the first day I could listen to the new system. The tech unit's where on the system as early as 7am. For some reason I'm having a lot of problems in picking up the signal good enough to monitor it. I heard them saying the everything was going well. They now have a system running North to South (19,79,77) and East to West execpt in one spot on 64. Once they have that backbone going with no major problems, then they could go back and do some fill-ins where they need it. I did hear later the East River Mt will be in that fill-in area. However I did hear that were having some problems in the Mossy area of 77.

I contributed the ones I knew off the top of my head. In the future, I s'pose we should just communicate updates to the moderator with the system's Submit function. (BTW, the site currently labeled "Fairview" is "Daybrook" [it's out on Daybrook Road]).

Greetings from Texas. (I'd forgotten how flat and hot it is down here...)

I think that calling the sites what they actually are officially known as is a good idea too. After all, most sites are going to be covering multi county areas, and to just use a local identifier (ie Martinsburg vs North Mountain) is misleading, especially for folks who travel into the area and are unfamiliar with the regional aspect of the system - in other words, they may assume that "Martinsburg" covers only the city itself. I know that we, as experienced users, know better, but we do need to be mindful of folks who love the hobby but may not fully understand the wide area coverage of the interop system...

We need to keep it as simple as possible! :)

exactly... the North Mountain site is being used by a few Charles Town officers and I know Harper's Ferry uses it as well.

To add to the confusion, the Emergency Operations Director of Jerferson County (I think that was his former title) was fired by the County Comission, I think it was last week. It may take a while for the Jefferson situation to get cleared up.

I don't have a pro-96, so I may not be the best to help.

how do you have the system in? I think you'll need to use the custom tables for you scanner. are the control channels you have programmed in correct? do you have it as a P25 system? maybe if you post more on how your setup is someone may be able to to help you more.
