Hello fellow WV'eers. I was traveling up in WV today. I came up from NC and traveled up I 77 to Charleston and had my GRE 600 loaded up with the WV interop system and couldn't believe that I never got the first hit on any talkgroup. Not even sure if I was receiving any tower sites. I got a bunch of the conventional frequencies okay but no P25 stuff. Whats up with this?? Is there no activity in the southern half of the state???

If you got nothing going through Charleston, something wasn't programmed correctly. The site on Garfield is quite busy.

I must be missing something. I don't even see a Garfield site listed in the database. Also I noticed about the last half of the sites do not have CC or alt CC frequencies highlighted. This may be part of my problem by not having any CC entered from these sites. Wonder if this is a problem with anyone else out there?

Just a quick question @ the wvirp; Is any dept using this system as their main dispatch/comm traffic, or is it still linked to their main radio's? Mainly interestted in all the counties west of I77. Have not put this system back in my 996 yet.
Thanks in advance.

Garfield site I think is Huntington site.

Only active sites is marked with red and blue for the cc and alt cc. These site are listed as 1xx.
For the ones that are 10xx has not become active yet.

Just for a note I don't think BC Tools downloads this system correctly. Check and make sure you are running this system as a moto p25 system and not at as moto uhf system.

Garfield is Charleston, site 109. It is very active. It's not uncommon to get denied a voice channel.

Many agencies scattered throughout the active counties use IRP as their primary radios. Some remain linked for various reasons, but the dispatch and mobile radios are 100% IRP. And there are some that are the opposite --- radios all on legacy system, with a console patch to the IRP system. And there are some in the middle... some radios IRP, some legacy. It varies from agency to agency.

In Kanawha County, for example, Charleston PD patrol division is legacy with patch to IRP; but CPD traffic division, CFD suppression division, and CFD EMS division are 100% IRP with patch to legacy system as backup, for pagers, etc. Capitol Police are 100% IRP. And so forth...

On Wednesday about 5:30PM, I caught TG 9189 on the Jefferson site being used by what sounded like DNR in Charleston and Boone County.

WV Fire Marshall F-5. [Somebody asked earlier if this was going to be F-5 or something else; I've confirmed that it's F-5.]

Tg 4259

TG 4259 sounds like a school system in Boone County for some type of emergency response. Anyone know what this may be?

Perhaps getting a school bus to take firefighters to relieve Nicholas County? [I believe that two Nicholas County (Craigsville) volunteers were killed last night fighting a trailer fire. Last time I heard, several area agencies were taking replacement manpower and equipment up.] I'm away from my radios; I'll see if I can guess what 4259 is when I get home.

2 W.Va. firefighters killed fighting mobile home fire

By FireRescue1 Staff

CRAIGSVILLE, W.Va. — Two volunteer firefighters died Thursday night while tackling a mobile home fire in West Virginia.

Chief Tim Blake, of the Craigsville Beaver Cottle Volunteer Fire Department, told a news conference Friday that about 18 firefighters from the department initially responded to the fire at about 10 p.m.

Lt. Johnnie Hammons, 49, and Timothy Nicholas, 26, became trapped in the blaze and several attempts to reach them failed.

"The Craigsville Beaver Cottle Fire Department asks for everyone to keep the families of our fallen brothers in their thoughts and prayers," Chief Blake told the news conference.

"We also ask that you keep our department and its members in your prayers."

Reid Cook, of the West Virginia Fire Marshal's Office, which is investigating the fire, told the news conference, "We will be treating this like any other fire except we will give 110 percent as we want to know why this happened and how we can prevent it in the future."

He added investigating a fire that involved a firefighter fatality is always difficult.

"We are one big family," he said. "It hurts, especially when some of my guys know the deceased firefighters."

Lt. Hammons had been with the department for about 11 years, wile Firefighter Nicholas joined last year.

Chief Blake said he has received calls from departments from across the country offering their condolences and support. He added neighboring organizations had also offered staff to cover the station while the department mourns.

"We are a grieving fire department, it's going to take time," he said.

heard that too. the Jefferson Co. dispatcher announced it was be patched. I think its about time that this was done. We'll have to see if Berkeley will follow. Does anything think the dispatchers have gotten more training on the new systems lately? I'm pretty sure I heard a Berkeley or Martinsburg dispatcher on the Loudoun Sheriff's Office dispatch all day about a month ago. I don't think I have heard him on it since.

Well, a ATV accident just happened and they decided to fly her out (head into a tree). Berkeley is not patching Helo 2 to anything...why can't they do it like Jefferson? We know the system is capable of doing it.

Sorry, but I am not going to read all 66 pages of this thread to find the answer to my question, which may have been asked before:

How do I listen to this system WITHOUT Win96?

Set system to Mot and Program the controls for nearby towers. Then program appropriate talkgroups.

Then set custom frequency table FUNC+2, then set Table FUNC+4

Table is
base 453.0250
offset 8192
step 12.5

A second table is listed which you may not need. However, if needed Win96 is required. My last use with 96/2096 the second table was not required which was nearly two years ago.
