On 1509 I've seen the JC Sheriff Dispatcher and other users of this channel have also been on TGs 1523 and 1543.


At 2222 the dispatcher answered a unit's question about what the official name of 1509 is. It's the "Service" channel.

Speaking of CBs, I heard a BCSO Deputy have issues on the mountain with his radio. It kept dropping out. Another deputy asked dispatch to let him know on his cellphone to turn on his CB and he would relay from the base of the mountain. Nice...a multimillion dollar system and they have to use a CB and K40 antenna. I have to agree with the deputies on this...it was horrible and what if he needed assistance or backup? I hope they get that dead spot fixed.

I'm kind of interested in what 1503, 1505 will be used for.

If the patterns hold out (and they usually do, but sometimes don't), 01503 will be Jefferson EMS Dispatch, 01505 will be the county seat or biggest muni fire department's dispatch.

And if my math is right, you should also eventually see units on TG 01935, which should be Jefferson 911. Speaking of the 911 channels... Each county was given a channel for its 911 center in the regional series (the TGs with 9 in the third digit). These TGs appear to permit affiliation statewide, unlike the counties' normal TGs, which won't affiliate too many towers from home. The pattern is that talkgroup:

{(a*10) + [(bb-25)/2]}​

So, for example, TG 01935 yields a=1 and bb=35, so it's assigned to county number [(1*10) + (35-25)/2] = 10+5 = 15, which is Jefferson County. TG 06927 yields a=6 and bb=27, so it's assigned to county number [(6*10) + (27-25)/2] = 61, which is Kanawha County. Etc. [This only holds for TGs 0x927 through 0x941, yielding 8 TGs for the 911 centers per IRP Region.]

Yep, I've added the Service channel to the DB. I don't understand why they just don't call 1507 Primary and 1509 secondary. Anyhow, just heard a JCSO unit ask if they Dispatcher could service him....wow.

Hearing encrypted traffic on 1519 and 1523, presumably from LE units. Heard same unit jump up on 1533 and say, "Break channel 1-9, anybody got their ears on?" Then come back and apologize as he didn't realize he was not on the "private" channel. Is this what encryption is used for? So they can speak freely on the radio? Yeah, I'll be going to the Commission is they encrypt all traffic. It's just not necessary, especially with the FD.

When channels are encrypted, does this cost more as far as the setup of the system goes?

According to recent WV State Police purchase orders with EFJ & Mo-mo-rola:

AES module: $375 - $590
KVL-3000 equivalent keyloader: $2,400
Loss of open government, citizen assistance, and public confidence: Priceless​

Ok... I added that last one myself. But the AES module and keyloader prices are accurate, as far as I can ascertain.

Now this is why agencies need the same type of radio systems.

Around 1930 hours Harpers Ferry PD unit 302 initiated a pursuit that entered Loudoun County. During the pursuit there was a stuck mike on TG 1507 Primary Law, Unit 1900 asked the ECC to come up on the TALK channel which was TG 1553. Unit 1900 sounded like the ECC or radio system supervisor/coordinator with instructions about the console and microphone.

Later the PD units asked for a patch to Loudoun County and were instructed to switch to TAC 1, they appeared on TG 1533 which had the Loudoun West PD channel patched with Loudoun and Jefferson units talking. I did see a unit come up on TG 1541 calling it Tac 1 but he switched eventually to TG 1533.

At 1951 the pursuit concluded in Hillsboro after Loudoun deployed stop sticks, 1 in custody with no injuries or damage.

I'm confused...is 1533 Talk 1 or is 1553? I think I already snagged 1541 as PTAC 1, but I wasn't sure...now I guess it's confirmed. As usual, Mike, thanks very much...Airfire, too! It's pretty awesome that they can patch two agencies together. I was out at the time, wish I would've caught it.

Shepherdstown PD has been doing quite a bit of location testing themselves over night. They've found a lot of dead spots up there, just like the old VHF system. They need to put a small site repeater up there. Kinda like what DCFD does with their mobile repeaters in the battalion chief trucks only permanent.

I was impressed that only after 2 days of being live, the patch was up and working in less than 1 min.

I just re-read the post about the pursuit into Loudoun county. Did we ever determine if 1541 was TAC1 or was it 1533?
