Somewhere monitoring the air.
Yes I read it jay, my question is the bug was supposed to be fixed in 1.09.02 and I was hoping for an update this week for the little things but because they are putting this Provoice in its pushing any update to next month. Oh well guess I will stick with hitting no every time I plug it in.

Good on them for the feature addition but I'm out. No more purchases from me of any brand until DMR is supported. Looks like I'll be saving a lot of money.

Come to think of it, I don't know that I've ever encountered a provoice system.

EDACS is well on its way out. Maybe that's why Harris has agreed to license the codec to a scanner manufacturer - who knows?

The original purchase price of that radio included the license (or didn't need it, since the radio is manufactured by the license holder, presumably).

.

Totally get those points.. I just assumed that the words huge, tremendous, fantastic meant something greater than an ancient digital voice format that will be useless to almost everyone within a year or so..

I wonder what words would be used to describe a TRBO upgrade?

Not to be a pest Jay but do you still think the heads will be asplodin...

There are people who went absolutely bananas when DSD first demonstrated the ability to "decode" Provoice. I got nasty PMs and emails after showing it off myself, from scanner listeners who wanted to keep that ability a secret, as if not acknowledging it gave them some kind of edge to lord over other hobbyists (since they could listen and others who didn't know how to, couldn't).

There's also the people who bought x36 radios, then returned them and called them "pieces of junk" which were "obviously inferior" to the rebadged PSR500 and PSR600 that Whistler put out. Some of those folks live in Provoice land right now.

Besides all that, like I said, I would like to believe that this is the first of several protocols that will be added in the same way. I would not be surprised if UPMan stayed tight-lipped on any future plans though.

There will be some here that will ***** about anything Uniden does (or does not do).

You can't make all folks happy nor can you placate those that exist only to troll.

For those that have not been able to monitor Provoice on a scanner before this will be a welcome upgrade.

Hello,

As much as I like the Provoice feature, I hope the missing firmware features are added soon.

There is a tendency to push adding new features more than porting features from an older product. I think the missing features from the older product are important as well, otherwise I have to use two scanners.

I am not hating on Uniden.. all I am saying is yes.. Provoice is a welcome upgrade.. and good on Uniden for enabling it.. but I wouldn't go as far as to call it huge.. I think a lot of people were expecting TRBO today.. but thats just my uneducated hater opinion.

Yes, you'll be able to monitor all the unencrypted channels on SLERS (my understanding is that most of SLERS is encrypted, with a few areas of sunshine).

Gotta love that bogus "Sunshine Law". Zero percent "transparency", one hundred percent censorship. Everything has to be carefully filtered, altered and delivered by some PR rep.

We need a serious change of State government down here. We needed it many years ago!

Well, I'll be on board. Maybe I can pick up some "scraps" here and there.

It will be essentially the same way the Extreme Upgrade is applied on the HomePatrol scanners. You purchase a key that is specific to the scanner you are upgrading (based on that scanners ESN). You then enter that key in the scanner's menu to unlock the capabilities.

That's going to hurt the old pocketbook some. More users have more than one x36 scanner compared to those who own multiple HomePatrol scanner. For me this upgrade will run me $200 seeing I own 3x536 and 1x436. Guess I'll need to decide on what is priority.

Let me tell you something - for me personally this is a HUGE announcement and fulfills something that I have waited for for over 15 years.

To be able to carry a nice portable scanner around with me and monitor my local agency is something I haven't been able to do here in San Antonio for a long long time.

Here is a youtube video of the 436 in action on the San Antonio EDACS ProVoice system.

By the way, San Antonio, TX is the 7th largest city in the United States and is exclusively on ProVoice for everything. Uniden will sell a ton of scanners down here.

Glad it's a fantastic new feature for a relatively few of you, but does zero for probably more than 90 percent of x36HP owners like myself who are nowhere near any ProVoice system. Meanwhile, a lot of desired features go unanswered, including the Andoid app, full analyze, better use of screen real estate, etc. Hey, how about at least some type of discriminator tap feature (IF output) so at least the majority of owners can more easily use DSDPlus. I
Calling this a great fantastic feature is really a lt down unless you are one the probably less than 10 percent of owners with EDACS ProVoice in your area. My pretty unwavering support of Uniden is a bit shaken today.

OMG - now the collusion theories with Uniden and RR will begin

:) :)

I just watched the video posted by Lindsay. To be fair, it indeed sounds very good. May have to visit San Antonio soon, bring one of my 536 and 436s, and try it out.

Maybe a new Uniden Radio will be announced tomorrow. If Upman said it will be huge then this news of a new radio would be huge right???

That sounds fantastic and all but, what happens if at a point in the very near future San Antonio takes the step of deciding "OK, now that people can actually monitor our system(s) far easier than we'd like, it's time to encrypt it..." ?

That would really be a lame thing to do but entirely within the realm of possibility. Right?
