And the video you referenced was posted by Lindsay Blanton...who lives in San Antonio (almost 300 miles from where Paul lives)...and isn't Paul Opitz...

Didn't you know, Kevin? We are all the same person - Paul. Haven't you read that in the other threads? :D

Why is it I get the feeling a certain person looks very much like his avatar? :D
I also hear Tweek from South Park for the voice.

Not saying there isn't a point in there, but it's kinda buried in the desperation.

Maybe scanners ARE as addictive as some say. We need to form a coalition and get congress to pass anti-encryption laws so we can get our fix

Well, you haven't paid for the license fee Harris demands for the ProVoice codes, so I guess you don't get it.

The difference is like they live 300 miles apart? Can you hear Cincinnati's TRS? After all, you practically live there, right?

(sometimes it helps to put things in context to relate it locally)

I guess you missed the thread where he said they ran into unexpected issues with the UID on some systems, and that delayed the release.

So...

Uniden releases the firmware as-is with the bugs, and they get blasted by users (like the last release).

Uniden delays the firmware until it is right, and they get blasted by users.

There is absolutely no way for Uniden to win in this situation until they put their R&D and production into building a TARDIS.

Nope saw that thread. Obviously it was what i was referencing. There is a way for Uniden to win. This was not something that was promised earlier.

You win, by not announcing the release until you have your facts straight, and can deliver what you promise when you promise it. Again under promise over deliver. Say nothing until next month, when you are really ready, and have it in your mitts to release. What did Uniden gain from the huge tremendous fantastic statement earlier? Nothing but more disappointment.

You win by under promising and over delivering. It will be out in two months, and release a month early. WIN. You win by releasing what was not expected when you announce it. WIN.

Advertise advanced analyze features. Two years later still not out LOSE.
Ask those same customers who have not received what they paid for to pay up for an upgrade. LOSE.
Yeah I get they had to pay for the licenses. It would be a small token to those customers as an olive branch for the mishandling of the X36 line, and its customers. That would have been a win.

And the difference is what? How convenient....Like they don't know each other.... might as well be 2 blocks

Oh, ok, now I see your logic.

OK, actually I lied....I don't see your logic. I live less than 200 miles from San Antonio and less than 300 from DFW so I must be benefiting somehow also. And Texas is so small I must know both of them also.

Now I see your logic. Uniden spent untold dollars/time figuring out ProVoice so 2 (well 3 including me) people could benefit from this.

Makes perfect sense to me.

They had no business figuring out anything till all the previous advertised options were fixed. Logic???? Logic??? Fix everything then throw some eye candy at us. Get Real

They aren't asking anyone who doesn't want PV to pay for it. If you want it, you can basically buy a license (which goes to Harris, not Uniden).

Now, I'm going to pit the two factions against each other. On one hand, you have those who are saying this feature is useless since so few will use it. On the other hand you have those who say Uniden should just pay for licenses for everyone.

So, if only 6% of the users might want it, why should Uniden pay 17 times the price (or more if the number of buyers is less than 6%) for something most will never use? All that will do is raise the price which yet another faction is saying is already too high.

I agree with the pick-n-choose feature set. Why should I pay so someone else can benefit? If you want it, pay for it. I didn't get a free set of tires or upgraded stereo from Ford because my paint is falling off. If I want a different stereo, I buy it. If I want new tires, I buy them. If I want Capacity Plus on my 6550, I buy it. If I want PV decoding, I buy it.

I understand what you are saying, Frank. If it wouldn't cost Uniden so much, they might very well just give it to everyone. But to ask Uniden to pay for licenses for everyone is just plain crazy from a business standpoint. They are already hurting from the R&D & R&R overruns on the dongle fiasco, LED fiasco, and RTC fiasco. They are making those all good for free, as they should. Asking for a free ProVoice license is looking a gift horse in the mouth IMHO.

Maybe you can call Harris and explain the situation, and convince them to just give Uniden the licenses so they can give them to all of us. Then Harris can call someone else and get something, and eventually the cost will get back to the dongle manufacturer which is where it belongs.

I can clearly see this forums topic has gone to crap.

You know, Dan, besides some of the obvious "haters", childish whiners who didn't get what they wanted, and pseudo-intellectuals that try to portray themselves as smarter than everyone else by using lots of fancy language, this thread has a lot of "heavyweight players" including the big dog himself. And I can't remember a thread that had so much involvement and intercommunion with all the "players". I think this is one of the best threads I have ever seen here. No doubt, Uniden got "the message", and no doubt everyone got their opinion viewed by the folks that need to hear it, even if some were downright haters. I'm proud to have started this thread, and very pleased at the communication happening with some of the key players in this whole scanning thing. I think this is great!

Sure, I didn't get DMR or NXDN, nor Confusion or D-STAR, but we all got our concerns heard and acknowledged (you know Paul heard it all), so not a bad thing. Provoice today, maybe the others tomorrow. I'm hopeful. But we know for sure we have all been heard. Not a total loss in my opinion.

Thank you Paul, Lindsay, Marshall, Kevin, Jay, and many more for your participation.

Phil :)

I live less than 6 miles from a full-time ProVoice system. This upgrade would be welcomed even though I'm broadcasting the system using a ProVoice-capable radio.
