To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I checked with our Harris shop yesterday; if it's a Li-Ion battery (or LiP), it should charge on the Harris charger. So I bought one of the 4100 mAh jobs. We'll see....

Follow up....

I ordered my battery from TAC1 Systems:

Works like a charm, keeps my radio going for over a day (using the 80/15/5 formula), and charges just fine in both of my Harris chargers (the older model as well as the low-profile one that came with the XG100P).

Just a little FYI. The wvbandcoms.com/ 4100 lithium battery ($85) will charge just fine in a Harris lithium charger (104560-016). Makes for a pretty economical battery solution.

Have you used this one in an XG100P?

Yes I have, and I suspect they are the exact same battery as the one from TAC1, just sold from different stores with different markup. These are my primary batteries for use in my 100P. Along with a few re-stuffed GTS's.

Nuts. Wish I'd known about this one before I ordered the one from TAC1. Costs about $35 less. Oh well.

May have to buy one of these just so I have a second good battery.

Those are all made by Power Products and relabeled, including the "OEM" HARRIS labeled ones.

So I went ahead and ordered one from them at wvbandcoms.com and the website said they were in stock, in fact I think it may have even said something to the effect of 'order now they're almost gone'...

So I ordered Monday, here it is on Wednesday and still no shipping notice or tracking info via Shopify. I contact them and they say oh it's normally a 3-5 day wait before shipping. What are they waiting on? They never had the battery in stock and it was all a ruse. They apparently drop ship everything, because why else does a company (support small business!! pfft...) need to sit on my money for a week before putting a single battery in an envelope and mailing it?

And of course the day after I order I get a big email (form) letter from the 'CEO' (if you're a small business do you really need to call yourself CEO? ego much?) saying I hope your first order is amazing and everything you want it to be etc...

I should have known I was in for a ride when right off the bat I see that the antennas they offer for the 100P are all the older style Harris-specific connectors and not the SMA the 100P uses. Unknowledgeable people selling crap they don't even understand. SELL SELL SELL.

Same thing here. I also ordered one from them on Monday, and it isn't shipped yet. No indication given for a shipping date.

Expect to see it late next week is my assumption. Either they are a drop shipper or they don't know how to operate their website correctly to show actual inventory status.

At this point the extra cost to get the same battery from TAC1 would have been worth it.

Anyone else tired of everything in the world being some kind of fraud?

Indeed. Makes me glad I went ahead and bought one from W/S Electronics in Xenia, cost me $2 less than TAC1 and it was free shipping (they actually handed it to me in person). Same battery except for the label, works just fine.

Received my 4100mah Li-Po battery from Waveband Communications today.

Be advised that this battery only fits in the oval shaped Harris charger that came with my XG-100p. It WILL NOT fit in my other Harris chargers. The reason is that this battery has a second "rail" on each side that prevents it from fitting in the square shaped Harris chargers. My Harris branded battery that came with the XG-100p also has this additional rail, but I never noticed it before, as I have only used the oval shaped charger to charge it.

Good to know. Luckily I have the puck charger too. I have noticed so far that there is no smart data available on the battery menu and that it seems at some point the charger light turned red. I think it was a case of the charger kept going after the battery was full and the pack BMS cut it off causing the red light. It was fully charged however. It does last pretty long so we'll see how it goes.

The only reason I can think of for the battery not fitting in a "regular" Harris charger is so that you can't attempt to charge a Li Po battery in a charger meant for Ni-Cad or NiMh batteries.

There was only one L3HARRIS "Smart Battery" and they stopped offering them years ago. It was a 3600mah battery specifically for the XG-100P. The other 3200mah, 3600mah or 4100mah batteries, with the checkered grip on the back, are not the "Smart Battery", that communicates battery data to the XG-100P.

So what you are saying is, there is no more smart batteries out there

Those batteries are preowned and being sold for a reason. I would just pony up for a new battery. Do we really need a smart battery ? As long as it works. Im good.
No… you don’t. The GTS batteries work great and have no chip at all… you just can’t charge them on the OEM 100P Harris charger.

I heard something about that on the GTS. I believe the TAC-1 you can charge on a Harris OEM 100p charger. Correct me if I'm wrong.

There are some other chargers that will charge the Waveband battery, although strangely my Harris 100P charger is not one of them. signal-2023-05-14-112235_002.jpegsignal-2023-05-14-112310_002.jpeg

The square charger is the CH-104560-016 REV. J
The other is the VC4000 CH-017231-002. Of course the radio won't fit unless you get creative with a dremel. But at least you can charge a battery on the cheap.

In the first picture above, what did you do to get the XG-100p to fit in the charger? I have the CH-104560-026 charger, which looks like the charger above, but my XG-100p won't fit into it.

In addition, my Waveband Li-Po battery has an extra ridge adjacent to the charge contacts that make it impossible to fit into any charger other than he round XG-100p charger.

In order to get the 100P to fit in the standard Harris charger you need to remove 2 screws from the bottom and remove the cup. You will need to cut out the front of the cup to allow the 100P to fit inside the cup. Next you will need to remove the 2 leds from the status board and solder a length of wire to them both and relocate the board elsewhere in side the charger (there is plenty of room). Then epoxy the leds back in the little window as tight as possible bending the led legs down to allow as much room as possible. It will just clear the front of the radio if done right.

Is your battery the 4100mah? I purchased the larger of the 100P compatible batteries. Maybe that is why my Unity charger won't charge the battery in a standard 100P oval charger.
