• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yes, I've found that wifi connection is a bit problematic. Though I've taken pains to ensure that the saved wifi hostname and password are correct, I usually have to reprogram the wifi data in setup on the radio before I can get it to connect. Otherwise, it connects but usually does not resolve an IP address. Which means no programming.

The cable always works. Less hassle in this case.

So strange you guys! Maybe you are seeing a firmware issue? My 200P is rock solid. I connect pretty much daily as I work on these very extensive mission plans. It connects in under 30 seconds with excellent consistency.

I do have the radio’s MAC address mapped to an IP reservation. The radio itself is still set to DHCP, but the router knows what IP address to assign to the radio based on it’s MAC, so it receives the same IP address from the router each time… I do this for most devices that I know will repeatedly connect to my network. Consult your router documentation regarding IP reservations…

It may be that...but I've pretty much got my usual personality dialed in to a fine point. I'm not reprogramming the radio much. That's how it goes for me. Once I've got the personality worked out it may be years before it gets touched again.
I've actually lost programming cables for radios I haven't programmed in over a decade. And don't even care.

Now about this XL...I do have to say that the audio performance is commendable. It'll run pretty loud and retain clarity, well enough that it is sufficient by itself in a moving vehicle. I can thus set my XG-100M to monitor one agency, and the XL-185P to monitor another agency, and both are perfectly audible and clear even at 70+mph.

Wi-Fi programming is working fine on my Unifi network. I have a check box in the network settings to enable mDNS and have had no issues yet on my multi-AP network connecting to my wired programming PC. Just sharing my experience.

Mine is an eero mesh. The radio and the programming computer (Toughpad FZ-M1) are both wireless. I didn’t have to change any settings.

@ElroyJetson I agree the audio is great! It’s even better with the XL-ESM on a shoulder strap. I can drive with windows down at 70 with the stereo blasting and still hear radio traffic! Granted, the speaker is on my shoulder, but it’s comfortable and easy to wear.

This should get you up and running.
I just wanted to pop in and say thank you. I was pulling my hair out tonight. Hooked up a spare router and configured it long enough just to re-write the mission plan to look for my home router. Good lord its been a fun night. Thanks again.
