• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Final UCM version was 5.07.15 (before they went to the MACE architecture, but not many of those boards floating around)

I am not sure what Motorola's official term for it is, but It just appears they took the UCM components off of the XTS5000/XTL board and moved them to the keypad. They use the same firmware and act the same so I just typically refer to them as "2500 UCM Keyboards"

So when I put the radio in service mode, it lists several firmware versions for things besides "Host version". I'm presuming that the firmware release 20.50.10 is the latest (last) Host version. It lists however a "Secure Ver", and a "DSP Ver" as well. Are these separate or are they all included in 20.50.10?

Host and DSP are always updated together during a firmware update. Secure is optional and a second checkbox/file to select. 20.50.10 is the final version for the ASTRO25 series.

The PRC-153 is mostly a regular UHF XTS2500 380-470MHz but with a dim display for night vision goggles and AES-256 encryption integrated into the keypad. It programs with regular Astro 25 portable CPS. Standard features include P25 and FPP. They get down to around $125 on Fleabay in very good condition and in my opinion an excellent radio for the price.
were you using win11 or winxp, and what cable?. thanks

I'm seeing a lot of surplus USMC XTS2500 radios for sale on ebay, and am considering getting one. Having only messed with civilian Moto gear, I wanted to know if these are something worth getting, or something that's going to be a headache.

First off, does it use the same CPS as the regular Astro Digital portables?

Second, I've read on here about accidentally bricking the Mil radios by pushing the orange and purple buttons, sort of a self destruct to keep it out of enemy hands. Is there a way I could turn this off easily, so I don't activate it by mistake? I notice some have a menu option on the screen for "erase", does this simply clear the codeplug, or does it brick the radio too?

The dim screen for night vision isn't an issue for me.

Anything else I should be aware of before purchasing one?
yes the same here, i did some homework about my situation thanks to the guys here and Brian, so should i buy a parts radio hoping
the pad and display work? or eBay or Motorola. also anyone with a xts 5000 would you tell me how many gold pins are the connector
to your radio? my 3000 has 4, my 2500 has 5 (4105) which they said it would work, but from what I've seen in the photos 6 pins.
last but not least maybe it matters if the other end has a USB or 9PIN.? where is it best to get the opening tools for the xts2500 and 5000
and display and keypad.
THANKS AGAIN GUYS
73's
