• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've made a bracket and mounted a 4' fire stick 2 ( screw adjustment type) in front of hood. Now the vswr is 1.5 at channel 1 and 1.9 at channel 40. While not great, that's the best setup I've seen.

I think without some kind of Frankenstein setup on the truck this is as good as it gets.

Also my radio has been giving me a bit of electrical noise (whine) on the higher channels since day one, what can I do to mitigate that? Would a choke on the power wires help?

I've moved the mount to right in front of the hood. Now I've got SWR of 1.8 at 40 and 1.8 at 1 with no spring and adjusted all the way down ( friestick 2 screw type adjuster). Might be as good as it gets...

Sounds like bad grounding on the truck or bad coax, try a different coax or build one with new ends and see if that fixes the issue

I'd like to again thank everyone for their kind help!

I've tuned the firestik all the way down with no nut and then cut off 1/4 inch of the screw. This results in no change in SWR . But hey it's below 1.8 and I guess that will have to do

Issue is ground plane. I have a E250 with ladders on each side. SWR blows. running a 102 inch whip on top of the van with a 4 inch spring I have to go to 29.000MHZ to get a fair SWR. 27.000Mhz It will work but its over 2.25-2.50. Ladders crap on everything. Make the wave go nuts.

I have the parts to boost my stuff up more, maybe you will want to try it.

suggestion

I've read info off the K0BG site which will really explain a lot about mobile setup as it pertains to radio, amateur or otherwise.
