Bandit, the choices are kida limited. My ONLY suggestion: get more than you think you need. If some new gizmo comes along you'll have room to put it whereas if you had designed your console around your current needs you will have more trouble figuring out what to re-do or delete.

Total and complete whacker!!! Wannabe cop!!!

You serious? I think you are jealous and don't know how to express it, because I know that I sure as hell am! If you took the time to read the thread you would see that the vehicle owner is an EMT as well as a storm chaser. He has made it CRYSTAL clear that the emergency lights are for EMT purposes only within his jurisdiction, to prevent idiots like you from thinking he uses them to be a "Wannabe cop". He has so much equipment because he is PREPARED and does the job RIGHT, and quite honestly I have a tremendous amount of respect towards him for that. I guess some people like yourself like half-*** work and don't realize true workmanship and quality. So what, he has a lot of radios and equipment. If he has the money, he has every right to use it on this as he pleases, let it be for radios, computers, or even light bars or sirens for that matter - because he is TRUSTED to use them properly.

Welcome Twin, you're the first to accuse me of that. We have done well in this thread to share thoughts, ideas and techniques. Information is welcome, dissension is allowed, derision is not tolerated.

RJK, thanks for jumping to my defense but it is not necessary.

Others: Let it go......

The guy is probably just trying to get a rise out of some people. He should be ignored. As mentioned previously, he's probably jealous. That or bored. Ignore and move on.

OK, you're right, this has become a chat room and not a how to / what's new, sorry...

This is the latest edition a Cradlepoint COR IBR600LE-VZ

CORIBR600.jpg

But in order to take full advantage of 4G LTE you must use 2 antennas. Since the usual cellular antennas don't have very good specs for the 600MHz Verizon LTE frequencies I have opted for a pair of these:

The Specs are here: TRA6927M3NB-001 - Laird Technologies 3G/4G Multi-Band (698-960, 1700-2700 MHz) Phantom Antenna (Black/NMO Mount)

This version of the Cradlepoint routerdoes not have the incorporated GPS in it so I'll have to go with another solution for the onboard system but for now this will have to do. Drilling starts when I get a coupe of new NMO's for the roof and a power / serial cable for the modem / router.

Still waiting on the power cable for the IBR-600 router and one more NMO cable........ Sometimes seeking out the lowest price has certain drawbacks...

I've been keeping track of your project on and off from the beginning, and absolutely amazing work you've done.

Just a thought for the future, the Windows tablets are showing great promise, and none of the fault points a laptop or condensed desktop will have. Just don't get the RT version so you'll be able to run any windows application. Granted the prices are high right now, but down the road I'm sure the prices will drop and provide great mobile functionality.

Thanks swilcos, Money is pretty tight right now so just getting the Cradlepoint router up and running is a big step, Sometime next week I'll get the external antennas mounted for the router but for now that IBR600 is running circles around my old home made internet panel.

While I'm at it, another shout out to Kar-Nutt and his suggestion to go with the Cradlepoint COR IBR600 the speed is phenomenal and the WiFi as WAN feature means I don't have to pay airtime rates for large file transfers and updates. Any of you out there needing mobile internet IMHO you can't do any better than the 600 for speed and connectivity.

I completely understand the cost being an issue, but hopefully as the prices come down it may become a viable option. My guess is that over the next few years we'll see a transition from laptops to the new Windows tablets, but we will see.

Looking at the Cradlepoint COR IBR600, that is a great little product. We've been looking at adding something to the van for extended trips, and that may very well be the solution. The security features and others make it one of the most flexible mobile data products I've seen.

The top shelf of the rack is looking a little bare with the new IBR 600 but it just means more room for the WR-10 XM / WxWorx receiver. Gotta get that Android APP written or a better computer in place before that will be any use. Stay tuned... more to come.

Don't diss me for the dirt and no.... this is not the final install. Don't forget we still have the satellite weather receiver to go:

I know this is from waaay back at the beginning of the thread, but what model GPS is that?

Hi Box, it's a US GlobalSat MR-350P. It requires an adapter cable for whichever application you are going to use USB or serial.

Mr350p Serial Gps products available for sale at GPS City

If you need any info for "non-standard" modification of the MR-350P that part of the thread is located here:

The installation pictures of the front cab of your rig have been deleted! Can you repost?

The Jealous One

Sorry Mike, I use photobucket to host my images and they switched a bunch of stuff around lately. That pic was the Toshiba Thrive mounted to the modified Jotto Desk mount:

I'm sorry but the thread won't let me edit this into the old location.
