is that a remote head radio and if so what freqs?

Looks like a TK-x90 with the remote heat kit. I have a TK-690 with a remote head setup somewhere. I was going to put one in my DD but I ended up getting a Motorola for it. Had a bunch of the remote head kits…I was wanting to try setting a 790 and 890 up as dual head, dual radio in a 3/4 ton Suburban I was looking at building but that project never got off the ground.

So this is only my observation: you mounted the console with the short bottom piece of the console to the floor, as opposed to the way I see it mounted on Havis's web page. did you try with the long bottom piece first?I am curious as I plan to redo my truck with this console and looking to see which way would fit best.

Your observation is correct, the angle of the console mounted this way worked well in my truck. If you look on page 3 of my thread I added a picture of the inside of the console. The console has 4 holes to mount it, and the holes are on the short bottom piece, making the picture on Havis's web page incorrect, that being said if you wanted to mount it with the long bottom piece down I don't see what you couldn't drill your own holes.

Also, if you check Ebay and search "C-AS-840-11 HAVIS 8" you will find the console for a buy it now price of $50, which is going to be about half the price you can find on any other website.

Hope this helps!

Nice looking setup, the Havis looks great. Also, just a word to anyone who is drilling thru the center hump of any type of newer model vehicle, it is a good idea to pull the sill plate, lift up the carpet or mat and reach with your arm underneath to the top of the center hump. A lot of newer vehicles are running wiring and/or ducting down the center hump. This can be a pain to reach on some vehicles but worth the effort.

Can anyone tell me... If I install a Uniden BCT15X scanner, can I hook into the external speaker that I have installed for my radio and have 1 speaker for both my Kenwood radio as well as my scanner?

You should be able to. I'm pretty sure you would have to get (if you dont already have) an amplified speaker in order for you to hear the scanner.

I wouldn't do that. Pushing two amplifiers against each other like that isn't going to help.
Either use two separate speakers, or you need to find a different way to combine the audio.

Thanks for the info, I will most likely use another amplified speaker for the scanner... I can see problems if the radio and scanner are receiving at the same time with only one speaker.

There are devices out there that will combine two audio sources into one speaker. I have one laying around somewhere that I used in the past and it works great. I do not know exactly what it is called or who makes it, but they are out there.

idea

You should put the speaker over the radio mount hole so you dont see that flat head screw!

Where were you successful pulling the wires through? I have to do the same thing on my 2015!

I started from the engine side and put the wires into the cab using the factory grommet on the drivers side. This was much easier to do on my old 2013 sierra then the new style 2014. To get it started through I ended up taking an old whip antenna and using duck tape to hold the wire to it. I Made a small incision in the grommet and I was able to push the antenna through until it came out inside the cab with the wire attached. I found this to be the easiest way to get wires inside the truck without disassembling anything or making any non factory holes. Any questions let me know and I can attach some pictures.

8859, I think I might need a pic of the grommet or of the area where the grommet is. I have looked a few times under the hood but can't seem to locate where I can get the wires through at. Thanks

To mmckenna; --- on my own behalf, Thank you for your appropriate, & KIND, polite response to the gentleman with the FRS radio vs. scanner issues.
We ALL had to start somewhere, .... & supporting our newest peers is the least we can do.
