31.960 how do you know it is a MaxTrac radio?
Because the MaxTrac, particularly the 16-pin accessory connector version, makes a unique, signature "double click" when it unkeys.

I'd bet the farm on it, I'm excellent with identifying little sounds like that. And don't ever dial your voicemail password in my presence either, I can spit out DTMF decodes as fast as you can send it. No equipment required. Yeah - I'm one of those.:)

Quieter day here despite 50 mhz being open to the US - CHP was on the usual 39 mhz freqs and Fresno popped up on 42.08 for a short time. Some weakish fire traffic on 46 mhz - and one interesting one:

37.7600C107.2WPWW697 (San Francisco, City and County of) talking about lake level, mentions of Millbrae. (TX is in Millbrae)

Maybe. Never considered it.

So, all. I heard back from Lee Cardice (35.140 WRFM852) via e-mail. Very kind person, explained that he uses his station for emergency preparedness and continuity of communications amongst a group of his. Makes good sense. I pointed out our thread to him, maybe he'll chime in. He runs 70W from a CDM750 into a 3dB gain antenna 43' above the ground. Sounds like a healthy station, makes a hell of a trip in to SoCal fairly regularly.

Here are today's captures from Southern California:

31.300151.4 (150.0)UnknownUnknownMilitary. "Range Control". Camp Gruber? Low audio, this is the "broken base station".

33.720179.9WNHI321Lebanon, CT Fire OperationsFreq/PL/Traffic. MDC on units. Sounds like they had something big going in a forest.
33.440179.9KCD346Tolland Co, CT Fire Ops SouthFreq/PL/Traffic

Anyone know anything about this 31.300 150.0 capture? It's clearly some military operation, "Range Control", and their base radio is royally screwed up and keys up with and without PL all the time, and what audio I do hear is always very low. Is this Camp Gruber, OK?

Any and all help with the unknowns is welcomed. As I said in the beginning of this post, it was nice to hear back from Lee Cardice. Seems like a nice ol' guy.

44.740 110.9 Local to me.
State of Maryland "SysCom"
They handle communications usually for
Med helo's both private company units
as well as Maryland State police choppers.
There listed in the data base under: Maryland/Medovac/
good catch....
Was going to edit the post to Maryland Medovac, but the 30' rule locked me out.
Even heard the chopper pilot's reply on this transmission and may had something too brief on 47.66 to note.

Need help identifying:
33.74 196.6? “Station 3 respond to 64 westbound mile marker 219 for a mutual aid request newcant engine and rescue”
Thank u
Most likely

33.740CarrierKYL829King William Co, VA Fire DispatchFreq/No PL/Traffic

The 196.6 is probably a false off of one of the paging tones. King William does have a 64 running through it with mile markers/exits in the 200 range, so I'm fairly sure that's what you heard. In fact, I'm sure of it, as what you heard was "New Kent", and New Kent is a border county to King William, so it was undoubtedly a mutual aid call. They are a bit of a powerhouse, and one of the "standards" I determine propagation status by here in SoCal. Washington County, MD and Warren, PA are the other two "gold standards" for me.

@217, look what you got me into with this... It's a habit... A daily habit.

Yeah those guys down south are something else. Pretty cool people actually.. Sounds like you picked up something else there at the end, definitely a different operation. You can hear the change in PL.
