Jersey Coastal ALERT Emergency Services (JCAES)


JCAES is a Nonprofit 501-(c) 3 Tax Exempt Corporation as a non-public safety, community service, communications service organization, and response team providing "on-scene" emergency communications, weather monitoring, weather alerting and SAR (search and rescue), especially for relief efforts (during natural and man made disasters) and at public service events. Consisting of members who are current and former professional First Responders and Civilian personnel from Federal, State County and Municipal level Public Safety agencies along with members from the private sector. Primary communication tools are Commercial Land Mobile Radio, GMRS, Amateur Radio and CB radio Ch. 9. All are NIMS (National Incident Management System) compliant and certified as well as licensed by the FCC (Land Mobile, GMRS and Amateur Radio (HAM).

Looks like a legitimate organization similar to a CERT team or what used to be REACT back in the day. I say this because a local group near me had a business band frequency they used for event communications back in the 1970s and 1980s. Some members weren't hams and CB was undependable (especially portables) so a 154 MHz business channel did the trick for them. They did a nightly or weekly (don't remember the specifics) roll call but it wasn't a ham rag chew. The channel was quiet 99% of the time and busy for things like 5K runs and other community events where they helped out. I'm guessing the use of a 29 MHz business frequency is to allow 10 meter FM ham operation from the same radio. In any case, that's a GREAT DX catch!

I log all of these to a notepad TXT file off of the ProScan logs, and then cut & paste from previous finds rather than key it all back in, then I manually key it in to RR (which is fine - keeps me busy). But if I don't update my TXT file, well, I keep posting "Unknown"

Believe it. There is a TON of lowband still in use. And no, the military doesn't strictly use spread spectrum. Plenty of us out here have captured a lot of military communications on 30-50MHz in random places. Look at some of the logs going back a few pages. Lots of range control, training missions, and who knows what else.

Nothing has changed, really, just lesser numbers of users. But the beat goes on, lowband is alive and well.
