Inauguration Comms

Roll call is being conducted on the P25 system in Montgomery. All comms are in the clear. Pretty good audio. Evidently all the standing posts are on this system. So far 76 personnel have checked in and roll call is still in progress. Air-1 is also on the channel.

Not sure which mode. Comparing what I heard here with YouTube examples, I'm inclined to say it was phase II. I don't think there is any symbol on the PSR-800's display, so I can't be sure. I have been listening to medflight and they sound exactly like the Montgomery detail.

And yes, I did update the firmware more than a year ago so my 800 is capable of receiving phase II.

By the way, they have just concluded operations and are dismantling the mobile comm center.

Edited to add: I just found another thread where the OP stated the 800's display will show "D2" instead of "D" if phase II is being received. That being the case, what I heard was phase I.

http://forums.radioreference.com/gre-scanners/278592-apco-p25-phase-i-vs-phase-ii-gre.html

Thanks for the question, I ended up learning something.

Been listening from work during the night shift with PSR-800 on the Montgomery site. All TGs are encrypted:

1335 - busy throughout the night, sometimes "patch" is displayed
1336 - also busy
1354
1583
1810.

Keith,

Keith,

If they've kept the same numbering conventions, the 13xx series talkgroups are MPD and the 15xx would be MFD. 1810 is the old DPS Safety-1 talkgroup.

Thanks Warren... radio has been pretty quite here at night since returned from our winter shutdown.

Supposedly Hartford, AL has gone digital?
Can anyone verify this.
Changeover was 3-4 weeks ago.

There is a digitally trunked radio system licensed to the Bellwood Volunteer Fire Department, which has transmitter sites located in the following communities:

Hartford
Samson
Slocomb

It could be possible they're using this radio system, which might be utilizing NEXEDGE technology. Additionally, the city has applied for, and received the following new frequency of 156.1275 MHz. Like the other system, this frequency is licensed for NEXEDGE as well.

I was driving through Montgomery this week and picked up 33557 and 32555 in the clear using P25. Sounded like public works.

FYI, Alabama Regional Communications System (ARCS) is switching over to the Alabama First Responders Network. I'll work the submissions as quickly as I receive them.

Dan, you're crossing the streams again :p Those are all MSWIN talkgroups......(all in the DB too)
Told you, you gotta check the SID and site number with all the 700 MHz re-usage

Thanks for the heads up. The bands were wide open last night so that explains it. I was monitoring the AFRN on my 536HP and as we know it doesn't provide me with SID or site info :(. I was just scanning the sites from the database.

No problem friend :)

I did not know that about the x36 series, but now I do. (...and that sucks)

Yeah when the conditions get crazy strong like that I get all kinds of crossover from BOTH directions. (LA and AL) and even sometimes a far distant MSWIN site or two, re-using the same freqs as one or two local to me will overpower the local site!!!

PRO Tip for everyone's benefit along those lines.

Unless you have some definite experience to the contrary with your particular area and/or specific sites, these 700/800 P-25 systems never rotate control channels and almost nevr have a situation arise that forces them into a control channel change. So... you should only ever have the known primary control channel stored in the site(s) you monitor. That will help cut down on the skip from adjacent systems in at least some, if not many, circumstances. If you want to be super anal about it, then maybe include only the next alternate CC in sequence, but never, ever include voice channels anywhere.

Also some scanners allow you to store the freqs, and then in turn lock them out, so that is another option too.

I haven't counted in a long time, but for MSWIN there's around 130-140 something 700MHz sites now, and they only use around 26-30 primary control channel freqs. across ALL of them.

I only use control channels in my settings. I'll have to see which frequency is I used on both systems. From the looks of it, there are a lot of frequencies that are the same between MSWIN and AFRN.

Yeah 700MHz was founded on frequency re-use. Had too look it up again but the AFRN Seminole site, which I assume is the site you're monitoring, being it is closest to you has the same primary CC as the MSWIN New Augusta (1-05) site in Perry County. Just one of those fluke things. Depending on how you look at it, It can be either frustrating, or exciting when the band opens up though. :D

Most people seem to focus on VHF DXing, but it can happen on 700/800 too. I know very well. :D

Talk Group 30843

Talk Group 30843 has been active (in the clear) off & on since Saturday. It appears to be an animal control unit in the Huntsville area. All the traffic involves animal complaints and googling the addresses they give takes me to Huntsville every time. The talk group is not listed in the database.

Can anyone confirm the agency name?

What streets are they dispatching to? It would either be City of Huntsville Animal Services or Madison County Animal Control. Are the unit numbers 770, 771, 772?
