It's a question of channel loading and necessity. There is no need for TGs used in the Birmingham area to be simulcast in other parts of the state unless a unit assigned to that TG happens to be in the area.

Even in Baldwin County, there aren't many TGs that are heard county wide. MedStar, Fire dispatch, and the Sheriff (encrypted) are about it. The The city PDs are not heard on towers that units aren't within range of.

It's not that great for listening, but the systems aren't really designed with scanner users in mind. :(

Speaking of Baldwin County, and maybe wise871 knows something about it. Last time I was down there I read something about some of the Sheriff wanting the cities and other users to pay more into the system for maintenance and upgrades. There was push back against that idea since the cities felt they were paying enough already.

Baldwin is sort of a mishmash anyway, with LTR trunks, NXDN, 700 Phase 2 and 700 Phase 2. I think there's even some VHF analog left. Not to mention a mix of clear and encrypted departments.

Thanks dan. Thars ashame .

Some of those comments are very good. Also, it's not uncommon, in fact it's very common, for public agencies to underestimate or even completely ignore, the costs of ongoing maintenance and replacing things like batteries.

I have to think that there were more cost effective ways to update to narrow band.

Sort of like the housing market back in the day. Everyone ran out to buy new homes when they were giving out the loans but they were able to afford the maintenance or upkeep the following years.

Oddly enough, the government was involved in that as well.

I read on another forum that Fairhope PD has moved to the 700 Mhz trunk. Has anyone heard them there?

The Decatur PD is now on the P25 system. Dispatch is 32120, Channel 2 is 32121. I'm still hearing them on their analog conventional frequency but it wouldn't surprise me if they stop using it soon.

Poarch Creek Tribal Police in Escambia County, Alabama are now using the new 700 mhz Alabama First Responder System. They are encrypted. Also Ozark, Alabama in Dale County has a new 700 mhz system they are using for Fire and Police. I'm not sure if Ozark is tied into the Statewide System or not.

If I'm not mistaken, sites are being added in RUSSELL COUNTY as well, at least to be used by the Phenix City public safety agencies.

They are patched in temporarily for some testing purposes. There is no timeline for them moving to the system.

What site are you hearing DPD off of? I'm wondering if the Trinity site is carrying their traffic also.
