At the hairdresser's, past the liquor store.
A quick look and I see lots of outdated info.
Par for the Alabama InterOp course.

I remember being at the first few meetings in the late eighties and early nineties that were to establish a statewide radio system. Headed by AL-DPS, a statewide 800 MHz was to be built out and co-operated with other agencies as they upgraded their systems and came online. Sound familiar?

The first implementation of this 800 MHz system was set up and used for the 1990 National Governors Association held in Mobile. DPS then licensed and set up sites sporadically across the state during the next couple of years. Then, as now, funding and understanding waned as key leaders were promoted, retired, or otherwise preoccupied in other areas of their duties.

Hello everyone.

I work in communications for a pubic safety agency in Huntsville and happy to answer any questions that I can.

I have a question? Today 01-Oct-15 the radios went down in Huntsville twice. Both times HPD was told to switch to C3 or C5. Can we access this?

Recently (Russell County) Phenix City PD, and FD upgraded their system. Is there a way to tell if their new frequencies are encrypted? Thank you in advance

I have a Uniden BCD436 which will decode Project 25 Phase 1&2 unless it's encrypted. I just can't find anything that tells me their status.

Yes all the talk groups for PC police and fire are using full encryption. The only TG not is for Public Works (Engineering) and I was told they have asked to be encrypted.

Thank you joejo95. That's what I was afraid of. Next it will be RCSO. They are working on getting funding now. After almost 50 years of listening to. The only ones I wish were encrypted is public works!!

Sure don't want the citizens, you know, the ones who pay them, to know what they are up to.

(Relating to the Huntsville system)
These are unencrypted conventional 800Mhz repeaters.
I do not yet have the actual frequency pairs. Should be just above 850.000 MHz, as that is as far as I've been able to track it to.
To add further confusion, each agency has them in a little bit different order and/or location on their channel lists.

The system did not go down. It was the 911 Center that lost direct connection to the system. The system went into "System Trunk" mode. According to Motorola literature, during System Trunk, each site continues trunking. However, the sites are no longer linked together. So, if you're out on the Gurley tower, you will only talk to other units on your talkgroup that are also on that same tower. Also, the dispatchers lose the direct connection between the system's receiver and transmitter.

Pro96com is showing me two new sites. 46B-209 (771.69375) and 46B-210 (771.23125). Looks like it's in SW Alabama near Baldwin.

ALEA Central on AFRN

ALEA central has been dispatching G Troop units on the AFRN today, monitored via the Montgomery site. Started @ 2PM with units coming on duty and Central giving them their assignments.

I am monitoring the Montgomery ALEA Central VHF frequency at the same time. The AFRN traffic was not on the VHF side.

Picked them up using the Wildcard designation. Talk group being shown is 2993.

PS units are also on the AFRN. PS calls are used by Capitol Police and other security details. Don't know if this is permanent or just a test.

I've been hearing ALEA on 2993 in Birmingham for a few weeks. The audio is pretty muffled because it's a rebroadcast. Not near as clear as the units talking directly on the system.
